Nutcracker November & December 2011
Our fantastical journey begins when Clara’s mysterious Godfather, Herr Drosselmeier, gives her a special Nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve. As the adventure progresses, the Nutcracker and Clara triumph in an epic battle, the Nutcracker transforms into a handsome soldier prince, Clara becomes the young woman of her dreams, and the two voyage to a faraway land filled with magic and mystery. Nutcracker’s scenery and costumes are designed by Maurice Sendak, renowned children’s book author and illustrator, with choreography by PNB’s Founding Artistic Director Kent Stowell. PNB’s acclaimed Stowell/Sendak Nutcracker is the Northwest’s favorite family holiday tradition! Running Time: 2 hours with 1 intermission

Don Quixote February 2012
In pursuit of his dreams, Don Quixote and his trusty squire Sancho Panza travel to Barcelona. There he meets young Basilio in love with Kitri, whose father is opposed to the match. Kitri and Basilio flee with a group of actors, while Don Quixote is overwhelmed by visions. When the group is discovered by Kitri’s father, Don Quixote persuasively intervenes and he finally consents to the marriage. The village celebrates the wedding and Don Quixote sets off once more in quest of his dreams. The biggest production in PNB’s history, PNB is proud to present the American premiere of Alexei Ratmansky’s full-length Don Quixote, which premiered at Dutch National Ballet to sold-out audiences. Running Time: 2.5 hours with 2 intermissions

“PNB has made an annual tradition of staging short, fairy tale-based ballets as a showcase for the school’s students and to offer a family-friendly show designed to hold the attention of even little ones.” Seattle’s Child
Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all? Snow White, of course! Cast out of her father’s home, the beautiful Snow White seeks refuge with seven dwarves. Determined to derail Snow White’s happiness, the evil Queen repeatedly attempts to harm the poor maiden. The Queen thinks she’s succeeded after Snow White bites a poison apple and falls into a deep slumber. The Prince sees the sleeping Snow White, falls in love, wakes her, and a grand wedding is planned. Danced by the students of Pacific Northwest Ballet School, Snow White is a brand-new, narrated, hour-long, version of this beloved classic. Running Time: 1 hour with no intermissions

Coppélia June 2012 In the fairy tale town of Galicia live young sweethearts Swanilda and Franz. The eccentric inventor Doctor Coppelius lives there too, building incredible creations in his workshop. Swanilda and Franz courtship is interrupted when Doctor Coppelius creates a doll so lifelike that Franz falls head over heels for her. The enterprising Swanilda evens the score by dressing as the doll and pretending to come to life—surprising everyone! Called the “happiest ballet on earth”, PNB’s all-new Coppelia premiered to rave reviews in June 2010.
“The sets — a whimsical village of porcelain-like houses, a cobwebby lair, a village square hung with exuberantly painted bells — shimmer with soft colors; the costumes, in lilacs and corals and whispery greens, sparkle as if sprinkled with fairy dust.
