HEALTH

Urology Care: Treatment can restore confidence, improve lifestyle Brought to you by Tennova Medical Group UROLOGY CARE: TREATMENT CAN RESTORE CONFIDENCE, IMPROVE LIFESTYLE Uncomfortable and often embarrassing urological issues impact more than half of all adults. That includes both men and women. The good news is that many common urological conditions can easily be treated, allowing you to resume daily activities without pain or frequent urges to urinate. Treatment can not only help restore normal urinary and sexual function, it WHAT DO UROLOGISTS TREAT? Urologists specialize in the urinary tract, which includes kidneys, ureters, bladder and the urethra. They also diagnose and treat conditions related to male reproductive organs. Urinary Tract Infections A urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common urological conditions. A UTI typically occurs when bacteria enters your urethra and travels into the bladder. The infection can spread to your kidneys, often causing a fever and upper back pain. These infections need to be treated quickly because they could spread into the bloodstream and affect other areas of the body.

6

SYMPTOMS OF URINARY TRACT INFECTION • Painful or burning sensation when urinating • Urine that appears cloudy, red, bright pink or brown • Strong, persistent urge to urinate • Passing frequent, small amounts of urine • Foul or strong smelling urine • Pelvic pain (in women) “Blood in the urine and painful urination are common symptoms of a UTI, but they can also be signs of other underlying issues,” said Dr. Ali in Clarksville. “In men especially, a burning sensation can be a symptom of a structural abnormality, such as an enlarged prostate, so it’s important to seek care.” ” Other Urological Conditions Urological conditions often cause frustration and embarrassment, which can lead people to skip social events and even disrupt their relationships. Fortunately, most urological conditions can be treated, improving your quality of life. Common urological conditions include: • Incontinence or the loss of bladder control, affects more than 25% of adults in the U.S. It often involves sudden, uncontrollable urges to urinate, and leakage before making it to a toilet. Stress can make incontinence worse. • Erectile dysfunction typically impacts men Clarksville Living

around middle age and can affect their ability to achieve or keep an erection. • Kidney Stones can occur at any age. These crystalized fragments form in the kidneys and can vary in size. Passing the stones can be very painful. • Prostate disease, including cancer and an enlarged prostate, impacts many men. Frequent and sudden urges to urinate, especially at night, can be a sign of prostate problems. A weak urinary stream or continued dribbling of urine could also be symptoms. How a Urologist Can Help A urologist offers diagnosis and treatment for these urological and male reproductive conditions as well as others, including cancers of the kidneys, bladder, prostate and testicles. Your urologist may recommend treatments such as therapy, bladder training, or medications for issues like frequent urination or incontinence. Changes in diet or eating habits could also help. When surgery is necessary, minimally invasive surgical techniques are often used. “We focus on positive experiences and outcomes evidence-based medicine and lots of TLC here to make sure our patients are taken care of.” TennovaUrology.com or 931-202-3381.

CHECK-UPS ARE ANNUAL

FOR A REASON. There’s a good reason to keep your health care on schedule. Your family. When it comes to keeping your family healthy, annual wellness visits with a health care provider are key. Routine exams and screenings can identify potential health issues early, when they are most treatable. And if you or a loved one gets sick, seeing a doctor is even more important. We know some people are afraid to seek medical care right now. But we are taking extra precautions to provide a safe environment, including screening everyone, social distancing, requiring masks, cleaning frequently and limiting wait times.

Trained young adult interns provide this second service, giving participating young adults authentic, hands-on experiences leading high-quality, structured programs for children and equally important, learning from the children in the program. Project Transformation programs are strategically housed in churches in neighborhoods that may be experiencing marginalization. The partnership between the site churches and Project Transformation is designed so that churches can make new connections and form meaningful relationships of mutuality with families in their immediate neighborhood. As in years past, Project Transformation will provide meals to participating children. There will be in person and online programming, with
