Spring 2020: Community

Community in Quarantine 54

From self-portraiture to illustration, to poetry, the following pages offer a look into the creative minds of our OSU community and beyond. DAMchic is honored to be a patron of communal arts for the first time in our history, having never featured creative works from outside the DAMchic team. Alone together is a unique way to connect with our friends and family in an unprecedented pandemic, sending millions across the world into quarantine. As we come out of our solitude, we hope this magazine can act as a scrapbook into the time that was COVID-19 quarantine and can bring you some solace in knowing that although you might have been on your own, you are not alone. 55

QUARANTIMES

These photos not only represent my style and creative mindset but are also a reminder to stay safe and protected (while always staying fashionable). Be bold and stay strong!

It seems like we’re all walking with our heads off as our body and minds are not all in sync.

Embracing Painted by: Isabella Johnson

This project was focused on empowering my self confidence and body positivity. The ability to show how beautiful the figure is no matter the shape or size. This is a reminder of beauty and embracing oneself.

Always the Romantic

Painted by: Mithril Ajootian I paint people because I see so much beauty in everyone and diversifying representation in art is so important.

Sow

Makeup and Photography by: Lillian Carman When I first took this photo I almost immediately deleted it, because I have always been so harsh and insecure on features like the bump in my nose, my soft chin, and my chubby cheeks, but since then I have really come around on this photo.I also find it humorous that one of my most beautiful looks was inspired by ham!

Bleeding Heart Painted by: Mithril Ajootian

This time has been a source of isolation and loneliness for me, where I severely miss my friends, my partner and those close to me but it has also been a time for me to practice and create art. I paint portraits of people often using bright colors and natural accents like fruits or flowers.

Not the Only One

Created by: Isabella Miller This feeling of loneliness never going away. The isolation feeling like it will last forever. But this time, we are not the only ones. This time, we are all tackling this together. This time, we will ALL beat this united strong. Everyone has the gift of creativeness whether we truly see it or not and it’s the connection it brings between people that is the magic of it.

Blue Skies Created and written by: Winnie Woo

Pockets of bright blue play peekaboo with me as I stare longingly out of the window. Now the gray gives way to the blue skies just out of reach. All I can do is stop and stare every now and again and then continue to look at the blue light from my laptop instead. 77

At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning. In particular cases it may be the desire for somebody or something specific, nostalgia, love-sickness.
