foreword Florian de Groot President of the 56th EFR board

The Economic Faculty association Rotterdam (EFR), is the recognized school association of the Erasmus School of Economics, faculty of Erasmus University Rotterdam. With over 7000 members, it is one of the most active and professional student organizations of the Netherlands. The mission of EFR is to bridge the gap between theory and practice. To do this, we organize activities for students in every phase of their studies. Whether you walk on campus for the first time or when you are ready to find a job, EFR guides you throughout your student life. At EFR, we find it very important that you can develop yourself outside the lecture halls. Obviously, we believe it is essential that you study well and get good grades. However, there are many things that cannot be taught by reading books. Important skills like communicating within a team, time-management and creativity are only learned through experience. To learn these important skills, we offer you the opportunity to join various committees. One of the committees I would like to give special attention to is our EFR Master Career Week committee.

The Master Career Week committee is meant for students who are interested in a fulltime committee experience. With four fellow students you will go fulltime for eight months, because it will be your task to organize a successful second edition of the EFR Master Career Week. Last year marked the first edition of the event. The previous committee was able to organize five so-called ‘branch bootcamps’, with large companies like Deloitte, Capgemini and Unilever participating. I can assure you it is an amazing experience to talk to and visit these companies. Every day, you will encounter many different aspects of organizing such an impressive event, ranging from being the contact person for large multinationals to project planning and managing a budget. In short, by joining the Master Career Week committee you can develop yourself both personally and professionally. You will make friends for life and also make a great investment for your future. It is the ideal opportunity for ambitious students that want to get the most out of their student life. In the rest of this booklet, you will find more information about the Master Career Week committee, the specific positions we are recruiting for and testimonials from previous committee members. I wish you a pleasant read and I hope to welcome you soon as a member of the newest Master Career Week committee. Florian de Groot President EFR Board 2019-2020

social

Learning to handle stress, working in a team, providing effective feedback, receiving criticism and making decisions around tight schedules are important skills that are not easily picked up in the classroom. You might have had a time management class, or read something about giving feedback but it is only after you have put it into practice that you begin to understand the fine nuances of these soft skills.

The EFR organises tons of social activities each year. As a committee member you can participate in almost all of them! As a fulltime committee member you are not alone in doing your tasks. Next to the EFR board, a special advisory board will be established to advise and support you where needed. The advisory board will consist of former EFR members that have experience in supervising or organising such an event. Together, they form the supervisory board and guide you throughout the year.

testimonial Friso Oosten Chairman EFR Master Career Week 2019

My name is Friso Oosten and I was the chairman of the first edition of the Master Career Week committee. Being the first edition, there were a lot of new challenges for both the committee and EFR. This was also one of the biggest reasons I decided to apply for the committee. To be able to set up a new event together with a group of highly motivated students is an experience I will never forget. I would have never expected the last 7 months to turn out the way they did and in this time I have learned a lot on both professional and personal level, ranging from how to deal with disappointments in work to solving issues within the committee. In the end, I’m very proud of my committee for setting up an amazing event, exceeding all of our expectations, and setting the bar very high for the coming editions. Of course, there is still a lot of room for improvement, and as the next committee, you will get the chance to both continue the success of the first edition and get the opportunity to improve the event to your own liking together with your colleagues.

testimonial Lisa Vreeken Commissioner of commercial relations EFR Master Career Week 2019

I am Lisa Vreeken and during the first Master Career Week I was one of the Commissioners of Commercial Relations & Events. For this function it was a real challenge to convince the companies to join this amazing new event and thereafter plan the entire Bootcamp. There were a lot of things that we needed to take in consideration; the availability of the companies, the schedules of the students, the restaurants, hotels and many other things. During these 8 months I learned a lot of skills that I never would have learned in class. Setting up the first Master Career Week was way more fun than I had imagined. We had a lot of freedom to decide how we wanted this event to look like and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished this first year. Besides learning a lot, it was also a lot of fun! I can happily say that my fellow committee members became really great friends of mine. After office hours we often ate together, went to drinks and parties and we even made a few trips to Zeeland and Antwerp. Even though our fulltime period is over, we still do a lot of nice things together!

last year’s EFR Master Career Week

Last year, the first edition of the EFR Master Career Week was organised. In two weeks’ time, 5 bootcamps took place, spread over the Netherlands. Moreover, the EFR Master Career Week also organised an international business trip to Dublin. A bootcamp consists of three or more companies visits, luxurious dinners and hotel overnight stays. Each bootcamp is focused on a specific branch. The branches are connected to specific masters of the Erasmus School of Economics. The event is the ideal event for every master student to find their future employer. The 5 branch bootcamps that were organized last year were: Port FMCG Finance Big 4 Data science

The EFR Master Career Week distinguishes itself from other recruiting activities because it allows students to get an in-depth few of the possibilities in a certain sector. In just two days, you enable the students to see the subtle differences between the participating companies. For next year, it will be your job to expand the number of bootcamps and paricipating companies
