TRANSATLANTIC SAILINGS

Imagine the wind-filled sails gently fluttering in the wind, the salty air stroking your face and a vast expanse of sapphirecoloured sea; this is a transatlantic crossing on board an authentic tall ship. With fellow-likeminded passengers, guests can get hands-on throughout this once-in-a-lifetime voyage, climbing up to the Crow’s Nest, hoisting the sails up and visiting the Bridge to learn about navigational charts and specialised equipment. Star Clippers is one of the few cruise lines still operating an open-bridge policy, adding a unique and immersive twist to these remarkable crossings.

Experience an adventure like no other as Star Flyer and Star Clipper make an iconic

journey from Europe in November 2024. Heading Westbound from Las Palmas, these remarkable 166-capacity ships visit La Gomera and Tenerife respectively before making the awe-inspiring 13-night non-stop voyage across the Atlantic Ocean towards the Caribbean. Throughout the crossing, guests can make use of a stunning Edwardian-style library - picture playing board games with new friends or documenting this epic voyage as brasslined arched windows frame the majestic, yet calm, ocean waves. Reminiscent of the Grand Age Of Sail, this voyage transports guests to an era inimitable in the modern world – rich mahogany finishings complement the gleaming brass work that

enhances the unique décor, and teak decks warmed beneath the sun hold scattered shadows from the mast that towers above.

Perfect for the avid adventurer, this voyage heads towards warmer climes and the momentous journey ends in the reliable Caribbean sunshine. Star Clipper’s journey concludes in Barbados, where a perfect onward stay at Hilton Barbados Resort awaits, and Star Flyer sails into St Maarten for a 1-night postcruise stay at Grand Case Beach Club.

In March 2025, Royal Clipper and Star Flyer make the same remarkable crossing, departing from the Caribbean to head Eastbound back to Europe. Royal Clipper, the world’s largest tall ship in service as recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records, departs Barbados for a 12-night crossing, before calling into Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas where a stay at the Santa Catalina awaits. After a recharging pre-cruise stay, Star Flyer departs St Maarten for a 20-night sailing which includes 18 nights at sea. Stopping en route at the Azores, Star Flyer’s crossing concludes in the beautiful city of Lisbon.

Operating a full-board basis, up to 5 meals a day are included, with countless food preferences and tastes catered for. Offering a buffet breakfast, buffet lunch

and an a-la-carte evening meal - as well as an afternoon tea and midnight snack – means guests won’t go hungry and will be in awe at the varieties of food on offer. Drinks are available at the Tropical Bar, the ‘hub’ of the ship, and it is here where the evening entertainment takes place, where acquaintances are made and healing laughs are unlimited. Forgo glitzy dress codes and Broadway-style showstalent shows, fashion shows and quizzes are just a small selection of the lowkey, yet perfectly-fitting, entertainment available. Guests can dance the night away or relax under the clear sky, gazing at the endless expanse of a midnight canopy sprinkled with twinkling stars.

With a 2:1 guest-to-crew ratio, there is always a friendly crew member nearby to help and assist, and before too long they will be on a familiar first-name basis. Star Clippers’ sailings are a truly unique experience, where laid-back luxury and authentic sailing combine-in some cases, up to 70% of the duration of sailings can be spent under full sail, using only abundant wind power to propel these majestic ships across the ocean.

Do not hesitate to find out more about these majestic journeys on board some of the most timeless vessels on the seas.
