BACKGROUND ❑ The preschool years = important for the foundation of their future health and well-being ▪ Development of habits and behaviors like physical activity and sedentary behavior ❑ High levels of sedentary behavior and screen-related behaviors in preschoolers (3-6 year) ❑ Important settings for preschoolers: ▪ Preschoolers spend a large amount of their time at home and at school ❑ Multicomponent intervention to tackle the most important influencing factors

GOAL ❑ Goal: an intervention to decrease preschoolers’ sedentary behavior that involves the school and home context.


WOOGIE BOOGIE: EXERCISE SNACKS ❑ GOAL ▪ To interrupt the sitting of toddlers on a regular basis ❑ SETTING: ▪ School or after-school care: www.woogieboogie.be ▪ Home: YouTube and Disney junior ❑ WHAT: ▪ Exercise snacks to interrupt the sitting behavior: o Short videos o Technical sheets for the teachers or supervisors o Poster and sticker package


WOOGIE BOOGIE: EDUCATIONAL PACKAGE ❑ MULTICOMPONENT INTERVENTION ▪ with inspiration and tips to make preschoolers sit less at school ❑ SETTING: ▪ School + involvement of the parents ❑ WHAT: ▪ Toolkit that teachers challenges to: 1. Adapt the classroom (e.g., put computers on a raised desk), 2. Integrate movement breaks in the school day, 3. limit and interrupt prolonged sitting in front of TV or computer, 4. learn content in an active, non-sedentary manner and 5. Tackle sitting on the playground.


WOOGIE BOOGIE: EDUCATIONAL PACKAGE ❑ TOOLKIT • The toolkit includes: 1. A roadmap with tips to help teachers/schools to o map the initial situation o choose a challenge to start with o encourage the children to be more active o involve the parents o take Woogie Boogie into the daily operation of the class or school.


WOOGIE BOOGIE: EDUCATIONAL PACKAGE ❑ TOOLKIT • The toolkit includes: 2. For each of the challenges: o A story plate o Inspiration, didactic tips and materials o Tips to involve the parents

-> raises the awareness, knowledge and skills of the teachers


WOOGIE BOOGIE ❑ THE COOPERATION o on request of Disney Benelux o Healthy Living Initiative ❑ IMPLEMENTATION o 2x/year WOOGIE BOOGIE challenge o WOOGIE BOOGIE day o Social media ads / storytelling o 775 (free) poster and sticker packages – 950 educational packages ordered ❑ SUCCESS o development - Intervention Mapping Protocol (IMP) + Toy box intervention o the link between different settings (school, after-school care, home) - the pre-schoolers received the same health message and movement breaks in the different settings o we get into the living room o Disney characters as role models o attractiveness, recognizability  ❑ OBSTACLES TO TRANSFER THE PROJECT (COMPONENTS) o reorganisation at Disney Benelux (less budget for the Health Living Initiative) o No permission to use the intellectual property rights and materials beyond the agreements made
