As we enter the final stages of the Academic Year, college suddenly feels very big! Year 2 students have left, having completed their end-of-course Assessments, and Year 1 students are suddenly in place as the senior-most students. In this year to remember, it has been wonderful to see just how many of the Year 1 students have adapted and taken such a positive approach to their own Assessments. Now complete, we start to look ahead. Next Week is a special week in the College Calendar, entitled, “Progression Week”, and we are excited to see that we have over 60 talks arranged for our students, in addition to their normal timetable. Most of the talks have been arranged by teachers, to ensure that students have a great opportunity to engage with external speakers, (or similar activities), reflecting upon the relevance of the subjects they study and how this can open up a range of options for progression after they leave College. In addition, we have a broad range of talks that anyone can attend – assuming it doesn’t clash with timetabled lessons – that are broken down into 4 main categories:

Extra-curricular – insights to help students develop skills that will improve the chances of a successful Progression after college. Supra-curricular – build on knowledge relating directly to subjects of study (or might like to study at university), delivered by Professors/Doctors/Senior Lecturers from universities. Insights – insights into specific career paths. Help applying to university – sessions through the week to help students start the process of applying to university.

We encourage all students to take advantage of such a great range of opportunities, and more details can be seen on pages 4 and 5 of this eMag. Finally, for parents who are also looking forward to the year ahead, we would encourage you to take part in our Virtual After Long Road Year 1 Parent’s Event, next Wednesday. Please see pages 20 and 21 for more information. Careers Team

University Taster Days Taster courses are provided by some universities and colleges to let you experience academic and social life on campus, before applying for a place. Taster courses vary in length: some are oneday courses only, whereas others are held over a weekend, or sometimes over a whole week. There are also a number of summer courses available. You'll often have the opportunity to stay overnight on campus, and to meet lecturers and undergraduate students – while finding out what the course really involves.

Most taster courses include lectures, discussions, and tutorial sessions. These give you the chance to meet departmental staff and get hands-on experience of the facilities. This can provide you with important insight into how the university or college works. Taster courses also allow you to find out about the other side of student life, such as sports, music, drama and cultural activities and meet other people who share your interests.
