ADMINISTRATION AND SUPPORT STAFF

Tommy McClelland

Director of Athletics (Interim) •-undergraduate degree in General Studies and graduate degree in Sports Administration from Northwestern State •- native of Basile, LA and former all-state football player •- football and track letterman at Northwestern State •- employed by the Southland Conference •- married to the former Jessica Stokes of Garrison, TX

Tommy McClelland was selected in May to serve as the university’s interim athletics director. He had been employed as the school’s coordinator of athletic events, sales and marketing. McNeese president Dr. Robert Hebert, who chaired a five person committee to select the successor to Sonny Watkins, who retired in June, said following McClelland's appointment, “Tommy is energetic, enthusiastic and a hard worker. We believe that he will do a fine job as interim athletics director.” The Basile native and Northwestern State graduate, has been quick out of the box. He formulated and drove home a two week travel plan that brought McNeese athletics to communities in Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana. And, he put together a “Partner with the Pokes” program for businesses. During his collegiate career at Northwestern State, McClelland was a football (H-back and deep snapper) and track (javelin) letterman. In high school at Basile High he earned all-state football honors and was the district’s defensive MVP his senior year. Prior to joining McNeese, McClelland, who holds both the bachelor and master degree from Northwestern State, was a graduate assistant in the athletic department and worked at the Southland Conference office, assisting with championship events and securing corporate sponsorships.
