Dear Readers,

Photography has always been the heart and soul of any magazine. And this issue is our homage to the great "visionaries" in photography, particularly those that include food. We celebrate this by highlighting some of this year's Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year shortlisted entries while we await the winner's announcement very soon.

Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year was launched in 2011 Open to professional and non-professionals, old and young, the Awards celebrate the best in food photography and film worldwide Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year was founded by Caroline Kenyon and her team at The Food Awards Company The idea for the Awards arose from two decades of experience commissioning photography and the wish to see this wonderful and vibrant photography sector given the recognition it deserves "We are extremely proud that Pink Lady®, the premium global Apple brand, has been the headline sponsor since the awards were launched "

The categories cover the full cultural range of the depiction of food in society ? there is something for everyone. From styled food for magazines to images of families eating together in celebration of religious festivals, from depicting the realities of food production to food growing in its natural setting.

Since 2011, over 80,000 images and films have been submitted from 96 countries

Of the 24 categories, we opted to showcase only nine and chose a few of our Premier FYUZN picks from the shortlisted photos. This is not related to the winner's list? just our appreciation for unique and visually captivating works from around the globe.

Claire Aho, 1925-2015, was born into one of Finland?s greatest cultural and artistic dynasties. Given her first camera at the age of 10, she was a trailblazer in many ways ? as a woman working as a commercial photographer from the late 1940s at a time when almost no women were working in thisfield, in her use of colour photography and in her unique photographic blend of style, wit and vitality.

Thankful for the Simplicity in Life

This image was taken from my visit to Shwe Gu Orphanage monastery in Old Bagan, Myanmar, in 2018 I visited this monastery for 3 days and observed their daily routines Most of these children have lost their parents and have no family. They are training to be Buddhist monks. These children have very difficult lives in a difficult place, yet they are very happy and grateful.
