Sri Ramakrishna Math Charitable Dispensary & Diagnostic Centre, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai: A Brief Report The Math started its Charitable Dispensary in 1925 to render service to the poor and needy patients in and around the locality. The devoted service of eminent doctors as well as lay devotees have enabled this Dispensary to grow into a very good centre of medical and diagnostic care in the heart of Chennai. During its 1st year the number of patients treated was only 970, whereas in the year 2020 the number was more than 3.6 lakhs (Including Rural medical). Appendix I & II shows the number of patients treated as per Government regulations. Most of the medicines are given free of cost. However, costly medicines like tonics, antibiotics, injections etc. are given at a very nominal charge. Investigations also are done at a very nominal cost including Blood tests, Ultrasound Scan, Digital X-ray, Digital Mammogram, ECG, Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, etc. The Dispensary has following departments: General, Eye, ENT, Dental, Paediatrics, Diabetes Gynaecology, Pulmonology, Thyroid, Orthopaedic, Cardiology, Physiotherapy, Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Homeopathy, etc. Details given in Page No. 21,22 & 23.

Our service to LAP (Leprosy Afflicted People) covers Chennai, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram Areas. for the past 35 years. The Math has been working to integrate LAPs with the mainstream of society to lead a dignified life. Beside this, our rural Medical team serving in Tiruvallur Dist it is a great boon to the backward villages in and around Theeyambakkam and Meyyur areas for the past 34 years. Our Doctors, and volunteers also serving the Blind Home inmates at Chennai. Medical awareness programs also are conducted.

1. (Orthopedics) (Digital X-Ray) . 1957- . 2019-20- 5396 . BPCL Digital X-Ray . 3 orthopaedic doctors are giving the best treatments to patients. The X-Ray division was setup during 1957 . During 2019-20 5396 X-Rays are taken here. With the financial help of BPCL a new X-Ray machine was installed and many patients are benefitted through this.
2. (Dental) 8 . CANFIN Housing Financing and Sampoornam Trust OPG X-RAY . Panoramic view . 8 Dentists serve in this department. The dental department is well equipped with dental treatment set up. This year with help of CANFIN House Financing and Sampoornam Trust an OPG machine was installed. This equipment helps to take Panoramic view.

3. (Physiotherapy) . 5 . 1985 . . 2018- . , , , , . This unit is fully equipped with all facilities. Mr. Ganesh Ram and Ms. Jayalakshmi are heading this division with 5 physiotherapists. During 1985, Rotary club of Chennai helped us to set up a new wing for physiotherapy and many patients benefitted by this. During 2018, with the help of Rotary club, many latest equipments were installed. Equipped with latest gadgets, this division helps economically weaker people too, to get the best treatment at lower costs.

4. (Ultrasound Scan) . . (Aanandham Trust) . SCAN is now playing a vital role in proper diagnosis. With the financial help of Aanandham Trust a new scan machine was set up which helps many patients to get proper treatment.
5. (Echocardiography) . All diagnosis and tests related to heart are done in this division with the service of super speciality cardiologists.
6. (Gastroenterology) 1990 - . . BPCL . During 1990, this division was set up with latest equipments. Intestine related problems are diagnosed and treated by specialist here. With the help of BPCL a new equipment is installed and many get benefitted by this.

Audiometry test which helps in finding out hearing loss and ENT Endoscopy are done here. This year Speech therapy too is included in this division. ECGC, Chennai has helped in setting up these new equipments.

DIGITAL MAMMOGRAM A Humble Initiative to Serve the Women Sri Ramakrishna Math Charitable Dispensary and the diagnostic center at Mylapore, Chennai has been at the forefront of serving the poor and the needy for the past 95 years with the grace of Sri Ramakrishna. an opportunity has come to serve women by offering Mammogram to screen for early detection of breast cancer. Breast cancer incidence is rapidly rising. Unfortunately, many women do not have access to screening
due to lack of awareness and poor
economic affordability. In many diagnostic centers mammogram can cost anywhere between Rs. 3000 and 5000 and this is unaffordable for economically weaker sections of the women. This can result in breast cancer being diagnosed very late causing suffering to the individual and the family and sometimes resulting in untimely death. we have installed a state of the art digital mammogram in our diagnostic that will benefit thousands of poor women at an affordable cost of around Rs. 500 or less. Upon diagnosis of breast cancer,

patients will be guided to the appropriate specialty and hospital for treatment at affordable cost. Through education and affordable mammographic screening, we will serve the needy.one kind hearted devotee from USA donated this machine. With this initiative, we have an opportunity to serve the poor and needy.

SRI RAMAKRISHNA MATH MEDICAL AND RURAL WELFARE CENTRE, MEYYUR, THIRUVALLUR (BPCL SUPPORTED) A Brief Report Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai has been undertaking rural medical service for the past 35 years. As a part of this service, a team of doctors and volunteers visit remote villages to provide basic medical care three days in a week. To realize the dream of Swami Vivekananda as to have better living style and basic needs, this service has been going on
for past many years.
As part of Swami Vivekananda’s 150th Birthday Celebrations, Meyyur Village, 50 kms from Chennai, was adopted by Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai. Two small nearby hamlets Gurupuram and Vembedu were also included to benefit by these services. MEDICAL SERVICES
Free Medical camps, Special camps for Alcohol De addiction, Eye check-up, Dental, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedic, Pulmonology and Cardio, Blood sugar tests for diabetic patients, special tests like Blood grouping, ECG, ECHO, Drops for children, PAP’s smear(Cancer testing) free medicines and food for the patients are given regularly . Apart from these, during flood relief, basic commodities were distributed in these hamlets which helped them to resume normal day-to-day life. .

EDUCATION AND OTHER DEVELOPMENTS The local children, approximately 100 in number are given free tuitions in academics and Academic Special classes through Video conference. Basic Computer training and Spoken English classes are conducted. A photocopy machine for the benefit of the villagers is also provided. Sri Saradamma Bala Mandir classes, Bhajans are conducted every Sunday. During this year summer camp, Students including college and higher secondary school, underwent basic computer training. These students visited I.I.T campus at Chennai, where they got a orientation of the institution. This visit inspire them to further future plans. At the end of summer camps with the minimum rural setup the children show their talents through cultural programmes including Drama in English depicting Sri Ramakrishna's life and Sasi Maharaj life incidents, Traditional programmes like Villu Pattu, Recitation of Gita and other Stotras. With the help of math, students from Meyyur Tution centre who were in final year of the school, got admission in city colleges including Sri Ramakrishna mission colleges. Specially women students joined para-medical courses. By co-ordinating with the local school, transport has been arranged for most children in Vembedu and Gurupuram to commute to school. Bicycles were distributed to school children to help them to commute to school.

Navarathri (Durga Puja) is conducted every year for 9 days. This year Pongal festivals and Swami Vivekananda Jayanthi were celebrated by the local people here. This year during Vivekananda Navarathri celebrations conducted in Vivekananda Illam, Chennai, and Meyyur people participated on 9th Feb 2020 enthusiastically. Meyyur Students performed Villupaattu on Swami Vivekananda. This was much appreciated by all and students got the blessings of Swamijis. SARADAMMA GRAMA MANGALAM - WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME In November 2014, a rural tailoring unit was started as “Saradamma Grama Mangalam�. This is run exclusively for the local women who are very poor, and in the past 5 years about 125 rural women have been trained in tailoring skills. This has provided them financial assistance and has helped them to educate their children too. Tailoring machines have been procured with donations from the Math and distributed to the qualified women of this group. About 55 machines have been distributed. Daily about 50 students and 20 elders are attending Arati and bhajan regularly. Every year Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sri Maa, Swamiji, Sashi Maharaj Jayanthi, Navaratri etc. are celebrated with devotion and food prasad is distributed at the end of every function Many villagers from Meyyur attend the main functions at Mylapore Math regularly and among them 33 are Initiated devotees.

RURAL WELFARE CENTRE-(BPCL- Supported) In view of the growing activities of the medical camp and other rural services, a community centre was built with the help of BPCL (which is supporting our entire Medical and Rural Service) and with the co-operation of the local Panchayat. This building was inaugurated on 11th September 2016 by Most Rev. Srimat Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj in presence of Sri S. Varadarajan, Chairman BPCL. For having uninterrupted power supply through BPCL 6KVA Solar system has been installed. We hope with the help of more compassionate hearts and helping hands we shall Serve the needy better

A Report on Leprosy Afflicted Persons New Life Welfare Scheme LAPs Welfare and Rehabilitation Scheme was started 32 years ago by Revered Swami Tapasyananda Maharaj with Rs.300 extending the help initially for 3 LAPs in a humble way. Subsequently, this Welfare and Rehabilitation Scheme has blossomed into a permanent Scheme with the blessings of Revered Swami Smaranananda Maharaj and Revered Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj.and blessed this Welfare scheme to be a forerunner and a Model Scheme for other NGOs. Welfare Measures carried out so far:
Sri Ramakrishna Math identified 1500 LAPs. In Chennai, Chengalpattu arears and extended various welfare measures at a reasonably cheap cost and prevented them from becoming street beggars. Once in a Month on second Saturdays, 8.30 am to 4.00 pm these Self Help Groups meet at Math’s campus. 10 Groups from Chennai, one each at Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram have been in existence during the last nine years. There are totally 100 Members in the SHG. Separate Bank Accounts for each Group have been opened at Indian Bank. These SHGs. have been very helpful in resolving many of their problems by mutual discussions. As there is no proper knowledge with regard to initial affliction of leprosy and also due to age old beliefs, when delayed treatment is given, nerves lose their sensitivity resulting in severe ulcers and loss of important parts of the body. Therefore, in such cases Allopathy and Homeopathy treatments are given to them.

About 1500 LAPs have been getting their Government Pension with the effort and help of the Math. Government Certificates for Handicapped persons, Pensions, Free transport Pass in Government Buses, Artificial Parts for handicapped, free spectacles, free medicines etc. arranged by the Math. Every Saturday between 1 and 4 p.m. Medical help given to LAPs at Math campus. Our Math has helped to perform the last rites and burial arrangements for those LAPs with deformed body and abandoned by their relatives. So far 110 LAPs were buried with due respects as per their religious rites. Every year on 30th January, World Leprosy Day is being celebrated at our Math Campus. Necessary financial and other help is given to the LAPs. The Self Help Group Meetings start with Prayers and Bhajans and discourses. They are not mere SHG meet for material benefits but the Meetings extend to LAPs a Sath Sangam which creates a divine atmosphere. At Thirumani, Govt Leprosy Home, (At Chengalpattu) various constructive welfare measures for LAPs have been carried out during the last three years. Potable drinking water by Deep Bore Well Pumps, Notorious food to all inmates on every Fridays are given through our math Branch at Chengalpattu, and daily vegetables are being arranged through Thulasi Trust. Once in six months, complete Medical checkups and medical advice are given by Math. With the help of Shankar Nethralaya and Ragaas Dental College, free Eye treatment as well as free Dental treatment are given to LAPS periodically.

Sri Ramakrishna Math Kanchipuram provides treatment and Annadhanam to on every Sundays to Kanchipuram LAPs. Twice in a year our Math gives new dresses to all these LAPs so that Public will respect and appreciate these neglected people. Let us all pray for these neglected children of God.
