guest editorial by SherylGottschall Reflections on Budd Hopkins No doubt by now you will have heard about the death of Budd Hopkins. Many called him friend, but I only met Budd Hopkins briefly twice. One of those occasions was a day back in 1992 when he spoke in Brisbane, Australia, for the first time. It was at a conference organised by Gary Weisman which also included speakers Palden Jenkins, Rosemary Decker and others who have now slipped my mind. Budd spoke about the abduction phenomenon, which had a profound impact on many, who then felt they had gained permission to reveal what was happening in their lives. More importantly, after they heard Budd talk about abductions so openly, they felt they had permission to ask for help. After an already long day at the conference, Budd found the energy to come to my home and speak to a small group of people in the evening, mainly fellow researchers. He was extremely generous with his energy and time that night, and I wondered how long he could keep up the pace, but his passion gave him the energy to talk well into the night before saying a cheery good-bye. He presented as a gentle soul and a sensitive, thoughtful, intelligent man. I know he touched many peoples’ lives at that conference, and continued to do so after he had left Australia, because his visit had set a trend for people to finally come in from the cold and reveal their experiences for years afterwards. Budd Hopkins was also the driving force for myself, as well as many others, to look into the abduction phenomenon more deeply and 'be there' for abductees. He changed our lives as well as our perspective on many things, just by following his own passionate enquiry and being himself. Some people didn't agree with Budd Hopkins and the way he handled The subject and even the abductees themselves, but rightly or wrongly, he changed the direction of UFO research, causing many to broaden their view of the universe and those who live in it, and that will never be forgotten

Brisbane Airport, June 15 2011, 11.44am

Bushland Beach, June 29 2011, 9.30pm

I thought you may be interested in some photos [image below] my 12 year old nephew took while waiting for a flight at Brisbane International airport at 11:44am. He was taking photos of the planes coming and going and noticed a silver disk moving at high speed overhead and managed to get three shots off on his camera [see image below]. Two of the photos are very clear resolution with detail and one shot is blurry. The disk has three segments with what looks like a depression in the centre.

On Sunday 29 June, at 9.30, I went outside to have a drink and a cigarette (waiting for a TV show to end). As I didn’t want to disturb my housemates with the smell (they had only just gone to bed), I went to the other side of the yard. I live one street off the beach, so late at night the stars look spectacular. So I looked up, and what appeared to be maybe 150 metres above the house behind mine there was an orange blob in the sky. I had to take a second look and it was still there virtually in the same spot. I went to sit down and looked up and it had started darting around the sky. For about nine minutes it danced around the sky and made its way up. All the way up. I did think that it could have been a weather balloon, or a flare, or a stray fire balloon (garbage bag thing), but it darted too quickly around the sky.

I have spoken to people who live around my area and they report that the saw two of these things and thought it may have been a flare, but flares act like fire works and shoot off and out in to pretty things. This just went straight up - no falling back down.

Albany Creek, June 17 2011, 2.15am In the early hours of Friday morning of the 17th of June 2011, at our Albany Creek house, I woke to a noise which I thought was someone trying to break in. I got up to investigate and noticed the time was 2:15am. I began to check upstairs and downstairs to ensure all the windows and doors were okay before I went back to bed. I went onto the deck at the rear of the house to quickly check the back yard. The deck faces south and has 180 degree views of the sky above the tree line and the roofs of neighbouring houses. What caught my

Garners Beach, June 15 2011, 5.00am I saw a UFO at 5 o’clock this morning at Garners Beach (Mission Beach). When I was outside tending to my pup I observed one large light with three little lights around it. The large light [image right] just sat there and the little lights, which were flashing colour, were moving around, back and forth. I went and got my husband out of bed and he sat there until 6.30 watching them. The large one was changing colour as it sat there, and the other three were very active. I did ring the police to report what I was seeing, and they were on the phone with me when this was taking place.

eye was a light in the sky — no ordinary light which I am familiar with as we are near the flight path of Brisbane international airport. The light in question was in the eastern sky, moving in a northerly direction at a slow constant speed. It was difficult to judge the altitude, but to give you an idea it was slightly above the tree line. It was a large bright light, dimming from time to time (definitely not flashing), yellow/orange in colour. At this point I went back inside to wake my wife. She came out onto the deck and is witness to what I saw, and she also could not explain it. It was a clear sky and all the stars were visible even behind the moving light. As the light moved further north it was soon to be out of sight as our own house would obstruct visibility. Now this typically would not be enough for me to report a UFO sighting and I would simply dismiss it and go back to bed, but as we were watching it move two other lights appeared, almost directly below and moving in the opposite direction. They were the same size as stars, in fact they looked like distant stars, both at the same altitude and if you extended your arm out and hold out your thumb, they were approximately the width of your thumb in distance apart. Both these two lights were moving at the same speed and in a southerly direction. They were of white colour and constant brightness. Just before the larger light went out of sight, the two other lights simply disappeared as if someone turned a light switch off.

general direction of Keong Rd. It did a slight hover as I watched it through several changes of the traffic lights. Then it did a 180 degree swing and seemed to lower towards the road where I could see a rotating yellow-white light at the top of the sphere. It flew directly at me, which is when I slightly panicked and drove off in a hurry along Albany Creek Road. I stopped outside the Pony Club as I saw the rusty red light again in the sky flying over the trees to my left. It had regained altitude and was flying in the general direction of the western end of Beams Rd. Another flash of the lime green “lightning” and it faded into nothing, instantly re-appearing further north over Strathpine (roughly). After about three minutes of general flying there was a yellow flash and the appearance of a shooting star, then whatever it was was gone. I scanned the sky till 0400 as I drove around Carseldine and Brendale but I never saw it again.

Booloumba Creek, July 10 2011, 2.00pm I just wanted to report an unidentified flying object while driving down Booloumba Creek road on Sunday July 10th 2011, at approximately 2:00pm. As my girlfriend and I were driving, a silver object catching a lot of reflection from the sun was completely visible on a perfect and cloudless day. Jokingly I said to my girlfriend, “hey there’s a UFO,” thinking it was a plane. When we realised the object wasn’t moving left or right we thought that it must be coming towards us, though it really just

looked like it was hovering. While it looked to be stationary in the sky we were able to make out that it was definitely a silver elliptical shaped object roughly two to three times higher than the hills we were surrounded by. Trying to gauge its distance, it looked to be just over the range from where we were. As it was reasonably close and at a fairly low altitude, we were able to see that the object was definitely bigger than a Cessna airplane. At this point my girlfriend said it had disappeared when in fact the object just got smaller, which I related to it moving away from us. Then it shot down and up (like the Nike swoosh) at an amazing speed which I can’t compare to anything I’ve ever experienced. All up the experience only lasted about 10 seconds. We spent the next half hour comparing what we saw to birds and airplanes. This was truly a UFO and it was like nothing we’ve ever seen before.

Springfield Lakes, July 30 2011 I normally don’t report this kind of thing, but as I was trying to find some research on orbs I came across your website. My husband and I were driving home from a late movie from Redbank to Springfield Lakes (near Ipswich) and spotted bright orange balls of light in the sky. It was just before midnight, and they looked like they were hovering over our suburb, Springfield Lakes. We kept an eye on them for close to one minute. We were still moving in our vehicle, but they were

I just saw a very bright orange light, early evening, travelling in a general northerly direction.

Albany Creek, July 8 2011, 3.20am I am a mobile patrol security officer working on the roads over nights. At 0320am on Friday July 8, I was driving along Keong Road Albany Creek, heading north-bound when I glanced skyward and at about 45 degrees up, saw a rusty redbrown light. At first I thought it was a helicopter heading to one of the hospitals. As I drove further along Keong Road approaching Albany Creek Rd, I realised it wasn’t a helicopter as it passed over the top of the Eatons Hill Sporting fields. I stopped at the traffic lights and the light passed right over the top of my patrol car and began to hover over the Albany Creek State School. Winding the window down I was able to distinctly see that it was in fact two rusty red lights rotating, surrounded by a spherical lightless object. For a split second, a distinct lime green “lightning bolt” flashed between the rotating lights before it moved in the

too close to be stars, and they were definitely moving at a steady pace. We saw about four of them spread out from each other -- clear bright orange lights. We were literally thirty seconds from home and went to get our camera, but when we returned to the area (roughly another thirty seconds later) they were gone. If they were lanterns they would still be floating in the sky, as we searched the area for another 10 minutes afterwards. We think it may have been something else.

Dalby, May 5 2011 On Thursday May 5th 2011, my wife and I were travelling back to Tieri after I had a hernia operation at Ipswich Hospital. We decided to come back via Toowoomba, Dalby and Roma, as it was the shortest route and we could do it in one day. We left our motel in Ipswich at 4.45am on May 5th. The weather was very foggy past Toowoomba, but cleared up by the time we arrived in Dalby. Having passed through Dalby, we were travelling along the main road towards Roma, about half way there from Dalby. The countryside was heavily wooded with mainly tall gum trees, both sides of the road. Suddenly an object appeared 500 metres ahead and about the same height above us. It moved across the road from our left to right side. It was about the same size, and was moving at about the same height and speed, of a passenger airliner landing. It wasn’t visible for more than possibly a minute, due to the visual restrictions caused by the trees. It was a beautiful blue-green shiny colour, with a small whitish vapour trail behind it. We were both shocked and couldn’t believe our eyes. I said to my wife, ‘did you see that, what was it?’ she said ‘yes, I don’t know what it was.’ Later on past Roma, where we had stopped at McDonalds for breakfast, we sighted some camels on out left side, not far from the road. We stopped, as did another traveller, to take some pictures of them. We talked, and I remarked that this was not the only amazing thing we had seen that morning. The lady was travelling from Melbourne after recuperation from an operation, and heading home to Townsville. The lady described the same object as we had seen. Unfortunately we didn’t think to get her name or contact details to verify this. Meteorite or alien craft we don’t know, but either way it was surely a great find and it seems nobody else saw the object. We will probably never know what it was, but I will never forget that day. I am glad that I didn’t see the object by myself as nobody would have believed me!

Object photographed near the sun August 31st, Townsville. Object in question is not the bright sphere on right (so far unidentified), but the streak on the left.

Townsville, August 31 2011 I’ve attached three pictures that caught my eye while taking photos of the sun with my iPod 10 minuntes ago. In the top left hand quarter above the sun there is a white thing. It shouldn’t be there what ever it is. The first photo I noticed it then the 2nd it had slightly moved then the third it was streaking away. I didn’t move the iPod, I just kept pressing till I got about 10 shots. I live in Kirwan, a suburb of Townsville, not far from the RAAF base. I am a current serving RAAF airman. This is the 3rd “UFO “ I’ve seen in my three years in Townsville, but the only one caught on camera.

Mount Warning, 2004 (reported July 2011) In December 2004, the week before Christmas, my wife and I had been spending a few days staying at Uki in the Mount Warning area about half an hour’s drive inland from Murwillumbah, Northern NSW. On our way back to Uki from shopping in Murwillumbah, on Uki Road approaching Byangum, I noticed five short white ‘vapour trails’ like short white clouds in the distant sky [diagram top left, page 7], and pointed them out to my wife who was in front passenger seat. We both had been thinking they were a long way off as from the road there isn’t a continual view of that part of the sky for several kilometres. Closer to Mount Warning they all came into view again. We now had a closer view, and the ‘vapour trails’ were split, each splayed out at the same acute angle of approximately fifteen degrees. All were motionless, just hanging there in the western sky as sunset approached. Two were horizontal to the ground, two were at approximately 45 degrees, and one was perpendicular to the ground. That part of the sky was lost to view for

several kilometres while following the course of the winding road. Then suddenly we came around a bend and there were four of them in full view straight ahead and to the left of the road, and we found the remaining one practically right over the top of us on our right, but far enough away to see everything without leaving the car. Only the oncoming traffic lane separated us from one of two visible columns of light beaming down from a strange black capsule or pod. Forming part of a ten to fifteen degree cone was the nearest of two visible translucent beams of golden light, each one ‘boiling’ with seething effervescent glowing ‘firefly’ particles, like a freshly poured beer placed over a strong light. I saw two beams to each craft but there could have easily been a third obscured behind other two. There was no sound. Bands of alternating bright and dim luminescence travelled upwards through each column of light to a black triangular ‘pod’ shape at the apex. Each beam appeared to be generated from a corner of the black triangle, which was in direct sunlight, although the sun had set behind hills. I could see sun reflecting from glazing (possibly a crew compartment), and estimate its altitude to be 500 -1000ft. The black colour was a dull finish, and had little or no gloss. There were no vertical control surfaces such as fins or rudders. I could see no wings, just a flattened three-sided pyramid profile. I had stopped the car to avoid being rear ended, and started moving at a crawl while looking for somewhere to pull the car off the narrow bitumen road which takes you beyond Uki to Nimbin, Kyogle and Lismore. At the time, my wife had thoughts ofa close encounter and wanted to get out

onto the road to continue my observation. When studying the object more carefully I discovered that it had a fine red line on each side of the sphere that came down about half the diameter of the sphere below it [diagram bottom right]. I watched the pulsating ball slowly float away from me toward the north and it got progressively smaller. The pulsations on some beats would almost extinguish itself, but it would brighten back up as it pulsed. It eventually became a bright orange star in the north as it headed toward Brisbane, and then it disappeared into the distance.

of car to meet with the occupants. To this day I firmly believe there was nothing extraterrestrial in the encounter. The triangular pod shape had a remarkable resemblance to top secret US stealth aircraft. The encounter ended once we rounded the next bend on Uki Rd / Kyogle Rd and we were in Uki within five minutes. I lingered out the front of the Uki guest house when we got back, watching for the next car arrive into the village following us. The occupants of the next car displayed no body language to suggest they’d seen anything unusual when they called at the Uki butcher shop.

noticed that it seemed to be like a see through glass ball, and the pulsating orange light would only expand to its perimeter at each pulse, which was about once a second or so. It seemed to be a fire inside a glass ball, but pulsating. As it floated above me I had the sensation that this object was observing me and it appeared to stop moving.

Gold Coast, August 5 1993, reported July 2011 Hello, I heard you on radio 4BC and enjoyed the program. I thought I would share my experience of seeing a strange object at the Gold Coast in 1993. I have only shared this with my friends before. It was Thursday night the 5th of August 1993. I was living in Meadowbrook Crescent Carrara and I was at home. It was a dark night and suitable for star gazing and I was to give a bit of a talk to a children’s club on Astronomy. I was looking toward the west between 9.00 and 10.00pm, when suddenly a huge ball of fire came up from the earth in the direction of the Hinze Dam area. It was a basketball size and shape with flames at its base [diagram right]. It was as if it had just launched like an Apollo rocket, but as an orange ball. Within about four seconds the flames coming out the bottom stopped and it was a perfect sphere. This object, when it moved over towards me, was as large as a harvest moon is on the horizon, though this was above my head. It was a bright orange ball that was pulsating like it had a heartbeat. It moved over towards me and appeared to be only a hundred meters away. I

There was no sound associated with it. I banged on the window for my sleeping wife to come and see this incredible phenomena, but she was too lazy to get up. I pleaded with her and stated that she may never see anything like this again, but to no avail. I climbed back

I shared my experience with my father the next day. He handed me the ‘Gold Coast Bulletin’ newspaper the day after that, which gave a report of this sighting as witnessed by several people. But the report gave an impression that it was only seen as a bright orange star, not as the larger than full moon size that I witnessed for a period of some five or so minutes before it slowly floated away, lasting another 10 to 15 minutes. I was glad others saw something also. I reasoned with myself that this strange object may have been some sort of energy release from the earth, or on the other hand some sort of spiritualistic manifestation. Being of the Christian persuasion I believe that supernatural things do occur on earth but they originate from earth. There are forces at work that are mostly unseen by the human eye but are sometimes manifested. I have included with this report a couple of diagrams of the object to the best of my ability.

ALIENS AND MAN?

A Synopsis of Facts and Beliefs Jerry Krosh Algora Publishing ISBN-10: 0875868177

“Jerry Kroth has bravely placed his neck on the academic chopping block by daring to address the question of the possible interaction of extraterrestrials with early humankind, a subject longed marked taboo by learning institutions dependent on the largess of both government and corporations, neither of which desire public discussion of such theories. Kroth crafts a cogent and engaging argument with an amazing blend of scientific and historical facts. If you want to keep your head in the comfortable sand, give this book a pass but if you are ready for an exciting bit of consciousness raising, be sure to read Aliens and Man.” Jim Marrs

NASA astronauts and Soviet cosmonauts have said they saw something, Senator Dennis Kucinich famously said he believes UFOs are real, and just about everybody has heard rumours that the US military and intelligence agencies are hiding something. In this book, a college professor attempts to apply a dispassionate scientific approach to the question, pulling together and evaluating evidence for and against various theories about aliens from outer space and other unexplained phenomena. How real is the evidence, he asks, and what does it add up to? Aliens and Man attempts to take on one of society’s most controversial topics: Is it possible humans interacted with extraterrestrials at any time in their history? Archaeological, mythological, paranormal, and biological “best evidence” is sifted and sorted to answer this question as we follow out hints by Jung and Joseph Campbell in pursuit of this fascinating supposition. The conclusion: Nothing is definitive, but neither is the enormous amount of data brought to bear in support of this hypothesis quite so easy to dismiss. Many intelligent, open-minded readers harbor secret interests: in the Great Pyramid and how it was built, in mythic tales of sky gods coming and going, from Ezekiel to the Rig-Veda. They are awed by the intricate fractals in crop circles, and they more than take notice when a NASA astronaut says he was trailed in space by UFOs. That questioning readership, however, swims in a vast sea of agnosticism curious but not convinced. Here, Dr. Kroth gives the run-down on a wide range of evidence, and ponders how reliable it may be. Jerry Kroth, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Graduate counselling psychology program at Santa Clara University. He teaches psychotherapy and personality theory, dreamwork, and research methods. He has an abiding therapeutic interest in working with dreams, personal oracles, and the applications of dream theory to psychohistory.

STOP PRESS! The author of ‘Aliens and Man?’, Dr Jerry Kroth, will be speaking in Brisbane on Saturday May 19th and Sunday May 20th, 2012. For more information check out our website www.uforq.asn.au.

ZANTHUS

THE ZANTHUS, WESTERN AUSTRALIA, AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTER OF 22 AUGUST 1968 A RE-EXAMINATION OF THE CASE

Keith Basterfield ©September 2011

Introduction: Whilst re-reading Leslie Keane’s 2010 book “UFOs” (Harmony Books, New York) I came across reference to the 22 August 1968 Australian, Zanthus case which involved an aircraft. There are many references in the UFO literature to this event. The usual summary they provide goes something like this: “Captains Smith and Gardin were flying near Zanthus, Western Australia when they spotted “a formation of aircraft,” which appeared to be keeping station with their plane. There was one large object and several smaller ones. Local air traffic control advised the pilots that there was no known traffic in the area. For several minutes the aircraft was unable to communicate with air traffic control. During this time the larger object split into two, and the smaller objects seemed to move around. Finally, the whole formation joined together and departed at tremendous speed.” RAAF documentation Few people are aware of the full details of this intriguing event. I found a two page report written by Captain Smith on file series A703, control symbol 580/1/1 part 10 pages 145, 160 and 218-223. This was a RAAF Department of Defence file. The Captain’s statement reads as follows. “Captain Walter Gardin and myself were returning from Adelaide to Perth on a charter flight. The aircraft was an 8 place Piper Navajo, registration VH-RTO, and were returning empty from Adelaide. At the first sighting I was asleep in the cabin, Walter was at the controls. We were cruising at 8000 feet with a true airspeed of 190-195kts, tracking 270 degrees magnetic. “At 0940GMT (1740WST) Walter abruptly woke me up in great excitement and asked me to come into the cockpit quickly. I did so, and he asked me if I could see what he

ufO encounter

was looking at. At first I didn’t because I was still suffering from the effect of sleep, however after about 30 seconds I could see what he was excited about. Some distance ahead at the same level and about 50 degrees to my right (I was in the right seat) I saw a formation of aircraft. In the middle was a larger aircraft, and formatted to the right and left and above were 4 or 5 smaller aircraft. We were on a track of 270 degrees (M) and these aircraft appeared to be maintaining station with us. “Because we hadn’t been notified of this traffic I radioed Kalgoorlie D.C.A. communications centre asking them what traffic they or RAAF had in our area. The answer was none. So I then notified Kalgoorlie that we had this formation in sight, and they in turn notified some eastbound traffic of the danger of unidentified traffic 130nm East of Kalgoorlie. “At about this time we lost communications with Kalgoorlie on all frequencies. We were getting Kalgoorlie carrier wave with no voice propagation, only a hash and static. “In the next ten minutes I transmitted about 7 times and I believe Walter did about 6 times with no results. Also at about this time we noticed that the main ship split into two sections still maintaining the same level, and the smaller aircraft then flew out left and right, but staying at the same level, and coming back to the two main halves of the bigger ship. At this time there appeared to be about 6 smaller aircraft taking turns of going out and coming back and formatting on the two halves. Sometimes the two halves joined and split, and the whole cycle continued for ten minutes. “The shape of the main ship seemed to have the ability to change, not dramatically, but a change from say, spherical to a slightly elongated form with

the colour maintaining a constant dark grey to black. However, the smaller craft had a constant cigar shape, and were of a very dark colour. Their travel out and back had a peculiarity not associated with normal aircraft, in fact they appeared to travel out and come back without actually turning like a normal aeroplane would have to. “At 0950GMT the whole formation joined together as if at a single command, then departed at a tremendous speed. Not disappeared as say, gas would, but departed in about 3 or 4 seconds, diminishing in size till out of sight. “The weather at the time of sighting was fine, with no haze above 6000 feet and about 2/8 altostratus cloud to the south of us and the other aircraft.” “Notes on UFO: “1. The distance from our aircraft of the UFO would be impossible to gauge, because the prerequisite to establishing distance is to know size, and the size of these objects are unknown. However, for comparison size, the main ship compared to that of Boeing 707 from about 10 miles. “2. Immediately after the departure of the UFO radio communications were restored. “3. Neither Walter or myself had the presence of mind to check if any deviation existed in our magnetic compass or automatic direction finding equipment whilst in the presence of the UFOs. “4. The whole formation maintained the same distance and bearing from our aircraft during the whole time of the sighting. “Captain Gardin and myself discussed the sighting at length during and after and came to these conclusions: “Whether the UFOs were: (a) Balloons. (b) Gases.

9

(c) Trick of lights. (d) Aircraft. “(a) If the sightings were balloons we considered it impossible to see these balloons from 30 miles, because this would have been the distance covered by the aircraft from the first sighting to the disappearance. “The UFO maintained the same distance throughout, whereas a free balloon would have a closure rate with us of 195kts our true airspeed and would have at least passed us. “(b) The same argument as above. “(c) If it were a trick of light, the colour of the UFO should have changed at somewhere or other, because the Sun had had a considerable traverse, coupled with our westward travel during this time. Also due to the last two facts any refracted light would have changed form dramatically, whereas the UFO had very little change of shape or colour. “(d) We concluded that the UFOs were in fact aircraft with the solidarity of aircraft except perhaps for the fact of the larger UFO ability to split and change shape slightly.” What the RAAF did with this case Captain Smith’s statement was attached to a memo from RAAF Headquarter Pearce, Western Australia to the Department of Air, Canberra, dated 12 November 1968. This memo stated that Smith’s account was received by Pearce on 11 November 1968. The Department of Air sent a “message form” to Pearce (Flt Lt Martin) and asked Pearce to contact the Department of Civil Aviation in Perth “on whether UFO report filed with any DCA agency in this event. In particular did Smith or Gardin report facts to DCA. Request check Kalgoorlie on whether pilots radio reported on UFO on 22 Aug.” A telex passed from HQ Pearce to DOA dated 25 November 1968 stated “Ref UFO sighting on 22 Aug 1968. Enquiries with DCA Perth do not show any reports received. Am now making enquiries with DCA Kalgoorlie on sighting.” On 9 December 1968 a memo went from the DAFI to Flt Lt Martin at Pearce asking for a follow up on the DCA Kalgoorlie angle. The response from Pearce came in the form of a telex and stated that DCA Kalgoorlie confirmed “that aircraft VHRTO on 22 Aug at approx 0940GMT enquired from APKG if there were any known traffic Zanthus area. On being informed there was none the aircraft

10

reported sighting of a UFO in company with six small disc like objects approximately ten miles north of track FT80 KAL on the same heading and keeping pace with them. The pilots of VHRTO confirmed this on arrival APKG at 1038GMT. Before departing for Perth at 1138 they were advised to make a full report to RAAF Pearce.” My comments/analysis 1. A check of the RAAF’s own published annual summary of UFO reports received by them, fails to locate this case. 2. To my knowledge, no additional information has ever come forward, either in the form of official documents, or further comments by the pilots concerned in the UFO literature. 3. I cannot find any record of any UFO group conducting an investigation. 4. Smith’s report states that the initial observation point was 130nm East of Kalgoorlie. This puts the plane near Zanthus, a locality on the East-West transcontinental railway line. An atlas puts Zanthus at latitude 31 deg 02 min latitude south and 123 deg 34 min longitude east. 5. The final observation point’s location is not given. However, at a speed of 195kts and a duration of 10 minutes, the final point would have been approximately 100nm east of Kalgoorlie. 6. The aircraft was tracking 270 degrees (m) and the bearing to the “UFO” was approximately 320 deg (m.) Smith’s observation that “the whole formation maintained the same distance and bearing from our aircraft during the whole time of the sighting “ implies that the “formation” was travelling at 195kts

tracking 270 deg paralleling the aircraft’s track at some unknown distance away. 7. A check of the astronomical sky using a software program indicated that at 0940GMT the Sun had set and was about 4 degrees below the ground horizon, some 20 degrees to the right of the aircraft’s track. The Moon had set, and was some 23 degrees below the horizon. The planet Venus was 13 degrees above the horizon at a bearing some 15 degrees to the right of the aircraft’s track. There was nothing astronomical at 50 degrees to the right of the aircraft’s track. 8. I located one potential explanation for the event. In an article by Martin Shough (at http:// www.caelestia.be/BOACappc.html) about the classic 29 June 1954 BOAC Labrador sighting of a large object and several smaller ones, a possible cause was suggested of an unusual mirage. He lists a number of other similar sightings which includes the Zanthus event and comments. “As with the BOAC Labrador case, the lateral movements of the smaller objects occurred in a very narrow band (“without actually turning like a normal aeroplane would have to.”) Interestingly, this happened at the same time the “main ship split into two sections” which might suggest that the inversion layer became thicker at that point allowing more objects to enter the mirage duct.” In conclusion This is a particularly interesting case, whether it was an unusual mirage as posited by Shough, or a “true” UFO. The RAAF, which was the official body charged with looking into UFO reports, did not follow it up according to the official documents, despite the excellent witnesses.

Here was an excellent example of a “UFO” which deserved, but did not receive, a proper scientific examination. A witness located and interviewed So far, I have utilised the details of the 22 August 1968, Zanthus, Western Australia case, as recorded in the RAAF’s UFO files. However, upon reading those documents there were a few questions which arose in my mind, which I wanted to resolve. What was the size comparison of the small to large objects? How far to the left and right of the large object did the small objects travel? Were any radar observations made? I was fortunate enough to be able to locate and interview, by phone, one of the pilots involved in this event. Walter Gardin is now aged 77, being 34 when the event transpired. He was kind enough to answer my questions. Here then are my interview notes, which provide some interesting new details which have not seen the light of day in 43 years. Interview notes with Walter Gardin 15 September 2011 Q1 What first drew your attention to the formation? We had heard that a balloon was to be flown from Western Australia to Sydney. I was flying the aircraft at the time, when I suddenly noticed an object out of the cockpit window. I looked again but nothing was there. I was reading a newspaper at the time. On looking up once again, the object was now present. Later I learnt that the balloon in questions had not flown on that day. So, the answer to your question is that I first thought it was a balloon I was seeing. Q2 The statement said the formation was at the same level as the aircraft. Does this mean that you looked straight at it, as opposed to needing to look up or down from the aircraft’s horizon? Yes. Q3 There was one larger object and several smaller ones. If the length of the larger object was one unit, what was the length of a smaller object? 1/10th to 1/5th of a unit. Q4 For the whole ten minutes of viewing, the formation maintained the same distance. Does this mean that the angular size of both the larger and smaller objects remained constant? Yes. Additional information: Walter was supposed to provide a position report to DCA Kalgoorlie, during the time they were out of radio contact with DCA Kalgoorlie. When Kalgoorlie failed to

ufO encounter

receive this report they were concerned that the aircraft may have crashed. Q5 The statement reads “the smaller aircraft then flew out left and right.” If the length of the larger object was one unit, how many units to left and right did the smaller objects travel? About 30 degrees. Two smaller objects went to the right and four to the left. Q6 “At 0950GMT the whole formation joined together.” Does this mean that they became one, and only one object, which diminished in angular size? Yes, they all merged. The smaller objects merged with the larger one by going into it from underneath. The one object then departed by going upwards at a 45 degree angle from the aircraft’s horizon. It diminished in size as if receding. Q7 Was the Sun above the horizon at the time? Yes. Q8 Was the Moon or any other object visible in the sky? No. It was a clear blue sky in the direction of the formation. Q9 The statement said the weather was fine. Does this equate to clear sky in the direction of the objects? Yes. The weather was fine in that direction. Clear blue sky. Q10 Was there any air turbulence at the time? No. Further information When they arrived at Kalgoorlie, the police were present, as DCA thought that the aircraft may have crashed. Walter did not talk to them about his observations. He understood that Gordon may have appeared later, on TV or in the paper. Q11 Kalgoorlie told you that there was no traffic in the area, when you asked them. Would this have been based on their radar observation? Walter and I discussed this point and came to the conclusion that Kalgoorlie relied on aircraft identifying themselves as being in the area, rather than radar observations from Kalgoorlie. Q12 Did your aircraft have radar onboard. No. Q13 To your knowledge, was Kaloorlie in receipt of any other observations of unidentified traffic? No. Q14 Did any RAAF personnel ever speak to you or Gordon about the observations? RAAF did. Walter recalls someone telling them about a case involving the US

Dewline and of a building in the US where they looked into UFOs. Q15 Prior to 22 Aug 1968 what was your opinion of UFOs? UFOs were “bull,” ( that is he didn’t believe in them.) Q16 Did you change your opinion as a result of the 22 Aug 1968 observation? Yes. After this episode I formed the opinion that there are other inhabited planets out there. Additional information: While looking at the formation, Walter had a strange sensation, which lasted for the next six months. He had the feeling that he was “in the control of people gathering information on people on the earth.” Q17 What radios were onboard the aircraft? Two UHF and one VHF. Q17 How many times did the cycle of smaller objects going outwards and inwards occur? I saw it three times. Gordon twice. Q18 Do you know if Gordon Smith is still alive? I don’t know. The last I heard of him he was at a flying school in Perth. Final comments Some very interesting information has emerged from this interview. 1. That the single, united object left at a 45 degree upwards direction. I had thought, from the statement given to the RAAF, that the one final object had simply gone out of sight still on the aircraft’s horizon. 2. That the smaller objects, when moving left and right of the main object, had travelled through about 30 degrees away from the main object. This is a large angular distance. I double checked this fact with Walter. 3. The smaller objects were 1/10th to 1/ 5th the angular size of the larger object. 4. The smaller objects merged with the larger one by going into it from underneath. I had thought from the original statement that the smaller objects came in from left and right, i.e. along the same plane as the aircraft’s horizon. Given all the data, from both the original 1968 documentation, and this interview, albeit43 years later (why did no one follow this case up at the time?) I don’t believe that the mirage hypothesis is valid. In my opinion, this event represents an excellent example of the “core” UFO phenomenon, and deserved a scientific investigation at the time

UNDERGROUND CITIES A

REALITY! Rex Gilroy © 2011

In our previous Blue Mountains UFO Research Club Newsletter there was an update on the vast underground Australian/American advanced space travel technology research centres, in which I pointed out that, besides military installations, there were also cities in which vast populations of people lived, just as they do on the surface. ‘Down below’ there are rail and road tunnels connecting these cities and ‘suburbs’ as on the surface. Aside from their space travel researches, these complexes are seen by the authorities as not only somewhere for life to go on in the event of a surface nuclear war, or asteroid strike, but as a means to escaping surface congestion due to overpopulation, which sees natural forestlands bulldozed for housing, the rise in pollution of the environment etc. The Swedish Government has found a way of avoiding the destruction of

surface natural features, forests etc for roadwork, by cutting through mountains [even of solid granite!] to have highways go underground, with offshoot roads to various surface towns. The next step will be to move businesses, shopping centres, even perhaps towns one day underground. Such things are already going on in Australia. I received the forgoing information from a lone ‘hiker’ while in the Blackheath scrub on Sunday 9th October, 2011, searching for dinosaur fossils. The man appeared from out of a deep gully onto the open summit where I was standing to suddenly confront me. I struck up a conversation and he wanted to know why I was in such an isolated place. After I told him what I was looking for he said that he was out hiking in a nearby gully. As I had earlier been looking for a way down into it he became vague and said that nobody can penetrate that area [which leads into the Grose Valley].

A closer view of the gully scrub out of which the ‘hiker’ [or was he in reality a patrolman from a small camouflaged opening leading into a section of the BurragorangKatoomba-BlackheathWollemi underground spacebase] emerged. In such dense wilderness it would be quite easy to hide anything. Photo copyright © Rex Gilroy 2011.

It was when I began talking on the conservation of the natural environment that he suddenly cam out with the information about Sweden. He was soon ‘edgy’ and I knew he didn’t want me around and I got the feeling that he was wanting to return to the gully, which seemed odd considering that it was getting late in the day and that I had been about to begin the long steep climb up a forested hillside to the summit, from where a fire trail would lead me to Heather waiting at the car. The thought crossed my mind that this ‘hiker’ ‘Ted’ with his military-style haircut unequipped as he was for camping, could have come from some small opening to an underground complex, located somewhere out in that gully, and close enough for him to reach before dark. Perhaps he was a plain-clothes guard keeping an eye out for unwanted hikers. I also felt it strange that he knew so much about the underground highways idea of the Swedish Government. Could he have known a lot more than he was telling, that is, about underground complexes on such a vast scale across Australia and here in the Blue Mountains in particular? I spoke briefly about strange phenomena in these valleys such as UFOs seen flying in and out of wilderness areas. He was quick to say that “nothing of that sort happens around here” and watched me as I left to climb out of that place. Of course strange things DO happen in this area; the ‘saucer’ nests where trees will not grow, some many years old, that lie out there in the scrub of the Grose Valley summit fringes, the frequent UFO sightings over isolated areas both day and night. Indeed, I now think there was more to this supposed hiker than meets the eye. As I began working my way through the scrub I decided to make a quick trip back onto the summit for a sneak peak to see if he was still there, but he was gone. All the way back to the car I wondered if I had been talking to a patrolman from the Blue Mountains ‘underland’.

OLD BLACKHEATH ‘SAUCER’ NEST

Rex Gilroy © 2011

On the afternoon of Thursday 18 th August, 2011 Heather and I drove our dog Andy to Blackheath where in scrubland overlooking the Grose Valley old hiking tracks provide places to take him on walks. Leaving Heather with our car on a fire trail Andy and I set off at 4pm. Having recently discovered a couple of old tracks used by trail bike riders I was not surprised to stumble upon another track that led deep into rough rocky terrain amid the dense gum scrub. The time was about 4.21pm when we emerged from the bush onto a wide, open grassy area. Here were signs of trail bikers activity in the form of a roughly circular bare patch about 90 metres in diameter. As I would soon return to Heather before darkness approached I hastily took photos of the site. It then dawned on me that I had stumbled upon an old ‘saucer nest’ now unknowingly being used by trail bikers as a gathering place! I recalled that during 1958 a gigantic saucer-shaped UFO was seen by Mr Anthony [Tony] Look as it hovered above Blackheath township about 6.30am one winter morning as he was entering the Blue Mountains City Council [Blackheath] Depot. At that time of morning during winter, the sky was still dark although dawn was about to break. Mr Look was joined by several other workmates. As they stood there discussing the craft in the depot yard, he estimated it was at least 10,000 ft above the ground.

The old ‘saucer’ landing site. The circular tracks are the work of trail bike riders. The tall gum growing in the midst of the circular area shows the landing site to be of some age. Photo copyright © Rex Gilroy 2011.

As the workmates were all early arrivals there were no other witnesses to the craft, which at about 10,000 ft still looked monstrous in size. According to Tony, who related his experience to me many years later, the craft began to emit a blinding white light, which appeared to come from a row of lights around the side of the airship, and he was able to count at least ten of these on the side directly above the depot. The lights projected a glow which shone directly down within about 50ft [ie 15 metres] at the Council yard and it also lit up the surrounding town area. Then, after spending a full ten minutes hovering above the startled workmen, the airship suddenly rose upward at a phenomenal speed to disappear into the clouds. When Tony related his experience to me he also drew a picture of what he could remember of the craft. He told me that although he and his workmates were laughed at when they told their story to the rest of the workmen when they later

arrived, the following week a ‘monstrous’ glowing object was claimed seen to descend from the late night sky in the direction of the Grose Valley [Mt Victoria end]. The question is, was the large open space found by me on Thursday 18th August, 2011 a former landing site of the great craft, or some other monstrous-size UFO that landed here many years ago? The Blackheath district has been the scene of a number of UFO landings at least since the end of the 1940s that I know of. Perhaps a search of the bushland around the supposed former landing site might turn up more evidence. That the ‘saucer nest’ found by Andy and myself is at least 90 metres in diameter certainly suggests that, if a UFO really had landed there a long time ago, it had to have been of tremendous size.

CHARLES HICKSON DIES AT 80 13 September 2011, 9:42 AM http://blog.gulflive.com/mississippi-pressnews/2011/09/ charles_hickson_ufo_abductee_w.html

Charles E. Hickson Sr., [below[ the eldest of two men who made global headlines with their account of being snatched from the banks of the Pascagoula River in 1973 by space aliens, died Friday in Ocean Springs. He was 80. Hickson was still known to occasionally sell his book,“UFO Contact at Pascagoula,” outside local businesses. He reportedly told friends and family — and sometimes total strangers — that aliens continued to communicate with him via telepathic means. Hickson, of Gautier, was 42 when he and then-19-year-old Calvin Parker, also of Gautier, reported to Jackson County Sheriff Fred Diamond that they were fishing on Oct. 11, 1973 off a pier at Shaupeter Shipyard when they heard a buzzing noise behind them. Hickson said they turned and saw a glowing egg-shaped object with blue lights at its front hovering about 40 feet above the river bank. The object was about 30 feet long and 8 feet high.Frozen with fright, the two men watched as a door opened and three creatures floated above the river towards them, according to reports. “The beings had legs but did not use them,” Hickson told The Mississippi Press in 1973.“They were about 5-feet-tall, had bullet-shaped heads without necks, slits for mouths, and where their noses or ears

14

would be, they had thin, conical objects sticking out, like carrots from a snowman’s head. They had no eyes, grey, wrinkled skin, round feet, and claw-like hands.” According to Hickson’s account, two of the creatures seized him and another grabbed Parker.“The teenager fainted with fright,” Hickson said. Hickson reported that when the creatures placed their hands under his arms, his body became numb, and he was floated into a brightly lighted room in the space craft. According to Hickson, he was subjected to some sort of biological examination by what appeared to be a large footballshaped mechanical eye, about 6 to 8 inches in diameter, which seemed to scan his body. Parker said that he could not recall what had happened to him inside the craft, although later, during sessions of hypnotic regression he offered some hazy details. The men were released after about 20 minutes and the creatures levitated them, with Hickson’s feet dragging along the ground, back to their original positions on the river bank. Expecting only ridicule if they were to tell anyone what had happened, Hickson and Parker initially decided to keep quiet. They then decided the government should be informed and they called Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi. A sergeant there told them to contact their local sheriff. Uncertain about the reception their story might get from local law enforcement, the pair drove to The Mississippi Press on Delmas Avenue to speak to a reporter. When they found the office closed, Hickson and Parker felt they had no alternative but to talk to Diamond. After listening to their story, sheriff’s Capt. Glenn Ryder put Hickson and Parker in a room wired for sound in the belief that if the two men were left alone they would reveal their hoax. But both men stuck to their story. Wikipedia has a partial transcript of their conversation: Parker:“I got to get home and get to bed or get some nerve pills or see the doctor or something. I can’t stand it. I’m about to go half crazy.” Hickson:“I tell you, when we’re through, I’ll get you something to settle you down so you can get some damn sleep.” Parker: “I can’t sleep yet like it is. I’m just damn near crazy.”

Hickson:“Well, Calvin, when they brought you out, when they brought me out of that thing, damn it I like to never in hell got you straightened out.” His voice rising, Parker said,“My damn arms, my arms, I remember they just froze up and I couldn’t move. Just like I stepped on a damn rattlesnake.” “They didn’t do me that way”, sighed Hickson. Now both men were talking as if to themselves. Parker:“I passed out. I expect I never passed out in my whole life.” Hickson:“I’ve never seen nothing like that before in my life. You can’t make people believe. Parker: I don’t want to keep sitting here. I want to see a doctor.” Hickson: “They better wake up and start believing. They better start believing.” Parker:“You see how that damn door come right up?” Hickson:“I don’t know how it opened, son. I don’t know.” Parker:“It just laid up and just like that those son-of-bitches, just like that they come out.” Hickson: “I know. You can’t believe it. You can’t make people believe it.” Parker: “I paralyzed right then. I couldn’t move.” Hickson:“They won’t believe it.They going to believe it one of these days. Might be too late. I knew all along they was people from other worlds up there. I knew all along. I never thought it would happen to me.” Parker:“You know yourself I don’t drink.” Hickson:“I know that, son. When I get to the house I’m going to get me another drink, make me sleep. Look, what we sitting around for. I got to go tell Blanche. What we waiting for?” Parker:“I got to go to the house. I’m getting sick. I got to get out of here.” Hickson left the room, and Parker was alone. Parker:“It’s hard to believe.Oh God, it’s awful. I know there’s a God up there.” Hickson and Parker insisted that they be given polygraph tests. The tests suggested their accounts were truthful, according to reports. Later, Aviation journalist and UFO skeptic Philip J. Klass argued that there was reason

ufO encounter

to question the reliability of Hickson’s exam. The polygraph test was given to Hickson by a young operator, just out of school, who had not completed his formal training, and not certified by his own school or taken a state licensing examination. Klass also stated in his account, the lawyer for Hickson and Parker — who also was acting as their booking agent — declined to have his clients tested by Capt. Charles Wimberly, chief polygraph operator from the Mobile Police Department. Instead, according to Klass, the lawyer had had chosen the operator from New Orleans. A subsequent investigation by Joe Esterhas of Rolling Stone uncovered some additional information, leading to much skepticism about the abduction claim. The supposed UFO landing and abduction site was in view of two, 24-hour manned Ingalls Shipyard booths, and neither operator saw anything that night. Also, the site was in range of the shipyard’s security cameras, which showed nothing that night. In his book, which he co-authored with William Mendez, Hickson wrote that aliens contacted him three times following the abduction — in January 1974 at a local tree farm, in February 1974 at his home and on Mother’s Day in 1974 on Miss. 67. He said the messages were always the same — “We mean you no harm. You are the chosen one.Your world needs our help. WORM LIK E UFO LIKE SPOTTED IN THE SKIES 21 September 2011 http://www.examiner.com/unexplainedphenomena-in-national/worm-like-ufospotted-the-skies-over-the-united-states-video

On Monday, September 19, 2011, a 37-yearold resident of the United States spotted a “worm like” UFO in the bright blue sky in broad daylight. The observer was able to capture the unusual sight on video. According to The UFO Sights, the amazing unidentified flying object was “crazy looking.” The video of the event shows a small black speck appear at approximately the 20 second mark. Although the object is initially blurry and difficult to spot, the UFO gets more defined about 40 seconds into the video. By the one minute mark on the video, the UFO is clear and easy to spot. It seemed to have round or oval shape at one end with an elongated tail or body extending from it. The object is reminiscent of the scorpion shaped UFO seen over Los Cristianos, Spain

URU

earlier this summer. This unidentified flying object could also be described as looking like a snake, serpent, or Chinese dragon. It doesn’t look like an airplane, helicopter, kite, bird, or anything else you would expect to see flying high among the clouds. The worm like UFO in the sky moved and turned like a slow moving eel in water. MARTIAN CLA Y CLAY HINTS AT LIFE 20 September 2011 http://www.cosmosmagazine.com/news/ 4759/martian-clay-hints-life

SYDNEY:The discovery of Martian clays rich in minerals formed by water activity suggest the planet could have supported life relatively recently in its history. Identified from data collected by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), the minerals were found inside two small depressions in a region of the planet known as Noctis Labyrinthus, or the ‘labyrinth of the night’. The findings, published earlier this month in the journal Geology, suggest the region may have previously been habitable when drier conditions existed on the planet’s surface. Weitz and her co-authors studied approximately 300 meters of vertically exposed layered rocks within two 30 to 40kilometre-wide depressions, called troughs, near the western end of the Valles Marineris canyon system. Each trough probably experienced multiple episodes where water partially filled in low-lying regions and deposited minerals. Volcanism from the Tharsis volcanoes to the west may have created subsurface water that was subsequently transported through the ground and into the troughs. Localised volcanism that produced ash and gases, hydrothermal activity, and melting snow or ice within the troughs could have also produced some of the minerals. The observed minerals indicate water varied in pH levels over time, in one trough from acidic to neutral, and in the other trough from neutral to acidic and back to neutral. “These types of minerals had already been discovered in some of the older terranes on Mars when the climate there may have been warmer and wetter,” explained geologist Marc Norman from the Australian National University, who was not involved in the study. The significance of this discovery, said Norman,“is that they found these hydrated alteration products in a much younger geological terrain of Mars, which looks like it has an age of

perhaps only 2 billion years old”. This is less than half the age of the solar system — both Earth and Mars are about 4.5 billion years old. “This terrain may have provided an oasis for life on Mars to survive and evolve, and would certainly be an interesting place to explore further with landers and possibly sample return missions to bring real material back to labs on Earth for detailed study,”he added. BORISKA, BO Y BOY FROM MARS, SA YS SAYS THAT ALL HUMANS LIVE ETERNALLY http://english.pravda.ru/science/mysteries/ 05-03-2008/104375-boriska_boy_mars-0/

A boy named Boris Kipriyanovich, or Boriska, lives in the town of Zhirinovsk of Russia’s Volgograd region. He was born on January 11, 1996. Boriska’s parents, nice, educated and hospitable people, are worried about their son’s fascinating talents. They do not know how others will perceive Boriska when he grows up. The say that they would be happy to consult an expert to know how to raise their wunderkind. Being a doctor, his mother could not help but notice that the baby boy could hold his head up 15 days after his birth. He uttered the first word ‘baba’ when he was four months old and started to pronounce simple words soon afterwards. At one year and a half he had no difficulties in reading newspaper headlines. At the age of two years he started drawing and leaned how to paint six months later. When he turned two, he started going to a local kindergarten. Tutors immediately noticed the unusual boy, his uncommon quick-wittedness, language skills and unique memory. However, his parents witnessed that Boriska acquired knowledge not only from the outer world, but through mysterious channels as well. They saw him reading unknown information from somewhere. “No one has ever taught him,” Boriska’s mother said.“Sometimes he would sit in a lotus position and start telling us detailed facts about Mars, planetary systems and other civilizations, which really puzzled us,” the woman said. Space became the permanent theme of his stories when the boy turned two years old. Once he said that he used to live on Mars. He says that the planet is inhabited now too, although it lost its atmosphere after a mammoth catastrophe. The Martians live in underground cities, Boriska says.

The boy also says that, he used to fly to Earth for research purposes when he was a Martian. Moreover,he piloted a spaceship himself. It took place in the time of the Lemurian civilization. He speaks about the fall of Lemuria as if it occurred yesterday. He says that Lemurians died because they ceased to develop themselves spiritually and broke the unity of their planet. When his mother brought him a book entitled “Whom We Are Originated From” by Ernest Muldashev, he got very excited about it. He spent a long time looking through the sketches of Lemurians, pictures of Tibetan pagodas, and then he told his parents of Lemurians and their culture for several hours non-stop. As he was talking, his mother noted that Lemurians lived 70,000 years ago and they were nine meters tall…“How can you remember all this?”the woman asked her son.“Yes, I remember and nobody has told me that, I saw it,” Boriska replied. In Muldashev’s second book “In Search of the City of Gods” he looked through pictures for a long time and recollected a lot about pyramids and shrines. Then he claimed that people would not find ancient knowledge under the Great Pyramid of Cheops. The knowledge will be found under another pyramid, which has not been discovered yet.“The human life will change when the Sphinx is opened, it has an opening mechanism somewhere behind the ear, I do not remember exactly,” he said. The boy says“No, I have no fear of death, for we live eternally. There was a catastrophe on Mars where I lived. People like us still live there. There was a nuclear war between them. Everything burnt down. Only some of them survived. They built shelters and created new weapons. All materials changed. Martians mostly breathe carbon dioxide. If they flew to our planet now, they would have to spend all the time standing next to pipes and breathing in fumes,” Boriska said. Specialists asked the boy why man-made spacecraft often crash as they approach Mars.“Martians transmit special signals to destroy stations containing harmful radiation,” Boriska replied. The boy has deep knowledge of space and its dimensions. He is also aware of the structure of interplanetary UFOs. He talks about that like an expert, draws UFOs on slates and explains the way they work. Here is one of his stories: “It has six layers. The upper layer of solid metal accounts for 25 percent, the second layer of rubber – 30 percent, the third layer of metal – 30 percent, and the last layer with magnetic properties – 4 percent. If we give energy to the magnetic layer, spaceships will be able to fly across the Universe.” He constantly interrupts teachers and says that they are wrong… now the boy has classes with a private tutor.

WILL CHINA T AKE TAK OVER THE MOON? http://cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/ 2011/10/19/8402070-will-china-takeover-the-moon

MA YAN MAY DOCUMENT ARY TO DOCUMENTARY SHOW ‘EVIDENCE’ OF ALIEN CONT ACT CONTACT IN ANCIENT MEXICO 29 September 2011 http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/sep/29/ mayan-documentary-alien-mexico?newsfeed=true

The ancient Mayans had contact with alien visitors who left behind evidence of their existence, according to a new Mexican documentary. Sundance winner Juan Carlos Rulfo’s Revelations of the Mayans 2012 and Beyond is currently in production for release next year to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar. Producer Raul Julia-Levy said the documentary-makers were working in cooperation with the Mexican government for what he said was “the good of mankind”. He said the order to collaborate had come directly from the country’s president, Álvaro Colom Caballeros. “Mexico will release codices, artefacts and significant documents with evidence of Mayan and extraterrestrial contact, and all of their information will be corroborated by archaeologists,” he said. “The Mexican government is not making this statement on their own – everything we say, we’re going to back it up.” So far,the minister of tourism for the Mexican state of Campeche, Luis Augusto García Rosado, appears to be the highest-ranking government official to go on record confirming the discovery of extraterrestrial life, but he’s not holding back. In a statement, Rosado spoke of contact “between the Mayans and extraterrestrials, supported by translations of certain codices, which the government has kept secure in underground vaults for some time”. In a telephone conversation he also spoke of “landing pads in the jungle that are 3,000 years old”. The documentary is believed to focus in part on previously unexplored sections of a Mayan site at Calakmul, Mexico, as well as a number of sites in Guatemala, where officials are also backing the documentary. “Guatemala, like Mexico, home to the ancient-yet-advanced Mayan civilisation … has also kept certain provocative archeological discoveries classified, and now believes that it is time to bring forth this information in the new documentary,” Guatemala’s minister of tourism, Guillermo Novielli Quezada, said in a statement.

Bigelow Aerospace promised to “cause a stimulation” with his remarks at the ISPCS conference, and delivered on that promise by laying out an argument for China’s growing space dominance. He said the trend could conceivably lead to a lunar takeover in the 2022-2026 time frame. Bigelow characterized China as “the new gunslinger in Dodge” when it came to space exploration. The way he sees it, China is progressing along a slow, steady path toward space proficiency. The steps in that path include follow-ups to the Shenzhou 8 spacewalk mission in 2008, the unmanned Chang’e lunar missions and last month’s Tiangong 1 space lab launch. In the coming years, China will have plenty of cash for great leaps forward in space, while the United States will be hamstrung by higher debt and tighter budgets. Why would China want to lay claim to the moon? Bigelow referred to some of the longdiscussed potential benefits, including the moon’s abundance of helium-3, which could someday be used as fuel for nuclear fusion. The moon’s raw material could also be turned into the water, oxygen, building materials and rocket fuel needed for human exploration. Bigelow speculated that China could conduct detailed surface-based surveys of the lunar surface in the mid-2020s, setting the stage for the country to withdraw from the Outer Space Treaty of 1967 and formally claim possession of the moon. China could then conceivably insist on being paid for lunar concessions, Bigelow said. He also doubted that the Chinese would be content with taking on the status of a partner in the U.S.-led space “family,” even if they were invited to join.“They want to have their own family,” he said. Bigelow proposed diverting 10 percent of the U.S. defense budget to the space effort, which he said would provide an annual boost of $60 billion. It may turn out to be “too late” for a space race to the moon, he said; Bigelow suggested that a U.S.-led consortium should target Mars instead. “I think it is a little bit of a stretch to think about whether the Chinese will be laying

claim to the moon,” Dean Cheng, a research fellow at the conservative-leaning Heritage Foundation, told me today. Cheng said the Chinese were clearly interested in lunar exploration.“They will have all the pieces in place in the 2021-2025 time period to think about putting a man on the moon.” But he doubted that China would try to do anything inflammatory — for example, rolling up the American flag at Tranquility Base and putting a Chinese flag in its place. “Incendiary stuff, not likely,” Cheng said. It’s more likely that China would want to see an international body such as the United Nations in charge of lunar exploration and exploitation, Cheng said. He pointed to the example of the Law of the Sea Convention, which governs the use of marine resources but has not yet been ratified by the U.S. Senate. Cheng said the Chinese would prefer to see lunar resources controlled by an intergovernmental body rather than private-sector entities. He said they’d definitely oppose an arrangement in which non-governmental entities are in charge, such as the system set up by ICANN, the Internet’s governing body.“The prospect of the Chinese having to deal with the space equivalent of ICANN is their worst nightmare,” he told me. When the Space Shuttle flew its 135th and final mission in July and retired without a

direct replacement, some critics accused Washington of abandoning America’s 50-year orbital legacy. The Telegraph even called it a “retreat.”Then last week, the U.S.government revealed new and formerly secret space initiatives that underscore America’s continuing orbital dominance. NASA announced plans for the biggest-ever rocket, set to launch in six years. Meanwhile, the hushhush National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), keeper of America’s most secretive surveillance satellites, used the occasion of its 50th birthday to declassify its ongoing orbital eavesdropping campaign over Afghanistan. At 400 feet tall, NASA’s planned Space Launch System will carry more, higher than the Space

Shuttle it will replace. NASA estimates the gargantuan rocket will cost $18 billion to develop; skeptics say it could cost four times that. When it enters service in the 2017, the SLS will “ensure continued U.S. leadership in space,” NASA chief Charles Bolden said. NASA wants to use the SLS to send astronauts to an asteroid no later than 2025 — and Mars after that. But there are possible military applications, as well. Just like the Space Shuttle, the giant rocket will be“dual use,” capable of carrying big military satellites in addition to purely scientific payloads. Satellites like those unveiled by NRO boss Bruce Carlson during his agency’s birthday celebrations. The formerly tight-lipped Carlson told reporters that the NRO has launched six new spacecraft in just seven months — “the best we’ve done in about 25 years.”The NRO’s secret sats have been busy spying on America’s enemies and rivals. The goal,Carlson said,is to“do sensing … in the daytime, at night, in bad weather, good weather … and sandstorms.” But Carlson is worried. The more satellites he puts in to orbit alongside Russian spacecraft and a growing number of Chinese sats, the more crowded it gets up there — and the more potential there is for catastrophic accidents or even a deliberate attack on American satellites.“It’s becoming more competitive,” the NRO chief warned. NEW IN THE SALES BIN!

Due to the interest in what may happen in 2012, I have done some research and have found a whole plethora of books and information. We have purchased some new books for sale, and some of the titles are listed below. We also have a few new Alien titles too. - Sheryl W, Librarian

Planet X Forecast and 2012 Survival Guide by Marshall Masters What is Planet X? It could be a comet, rogue planet, or as this book maintains, a dying brown dwarf companion to Sol. In the years to come, its elliptical orbit will bring it into the core of our system, where it will enrage our Sun. The purpose of this book is to help those who now agree that time is of the essence. It does this by offering a practical 2012 tool kit of how-to survival knowledge, for those who will be left to fend for themselves. Regardless of whether you can afford to build a bunker or can barely afford a shovel, the information in this book is designed to be equally useful. T Sheryl says - I have been making my way through 'Planet X Forecast' and have found it to be straightforward and a practical tool kit, although it does go into the whys and wherefores explanations more than I at first wanted. But, this does give credence to the theory. I have 3 new copies on order which hopefully will be here for the next meeting -- the first batch sold out straight away. I can order more copies, just come and ask.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to 2012 by Synthia Andrews and Colin Andrews On December 21, 2012, the Mayan calendar will complete its thirteenth cycle. According to the Mayan belief system, the world will end. And if you don't believe the Mayans, you can check in with The Bible Code, The Nostradamus Code, or The Orion Prophecy, all of which predict planet-wide doom. Then again, maybe the year 2012 is just a new opportunity. Could 2012 bring us good things instead of bad? This book gives readers a look at what the Mayan prophecy is all about, what it means to them, and much more. Sheryl says - I have browsed through 'The Complete Idiots Guide to 2012' and find this easy reading and informative in simple to understand language. Books can be purchased at Public Meetings, last Friday of every month. See page 19 for venue details. EFTPOS available.

shares Carlson’s concern. Erickson wants Washington to safeguard its spacecraft and also deploy back-up airborne systems.“The United States, and particularly the U.S. military, should … NOT remove assets from space or otherwise decrease its presence there,” Erickson wrote. It’s a safe bet the Air Force’s secretive X-37B spaceplane is also part of the space protection plan. The robotic mini-shuttle can manoeuvre across orbits and, in theory, sneak up on enemy spacecraft, inspecting or even disabling them. Secret sats, giant rockets and sneaky roboshuttles are not the hallmarks of a world power retreating from orbit. With more and bigger U.S. spacecraft blasting into the heavens, the bloodless space war is only escalating. RUSSIANS TO BUILD MOON BASE IN VOLCANIC TUNNELS http://blastr.com/2011/10/russians-planto-build-mo.php

When sci-fi conjures up images of a lunar base, it’s usually a metal structure on the surface with some kind of dome or shield protecting it. Science fact is sometimes stranger than its fiction, though, and our old friends the Russians have a whole new spin on the old“colonize the moon” plan. In 2008, Japan’s Kaguya spacecraft discovered a meters-deep hole on the surface of the moon. It’s been long suspected that there’s a vast system of tunnels beneath the moon due to its volcanic past. Russians are now postulating that it may be possible to access those tunnels through the hole in the moon’s surface. According to veteran spaceman Sergei Krikalyov, who heads Russia’s Star City cosmonaut training center,“If it turns out that the moon has a number of caves that can provide some protection from radiation and meteor showers, it could be an even more interesting destination than previously thought.” A slide show displayed images of bunkerlike inflatable tents to give viewers an idea of how a lunar base might look.“It would be enough to use an inflatable module with a hard outer shell to—roughly speaking—seal the caves,” said Krikalyov. The craziest part is how early the Russians are projecting they could have the first colonies built—2030.

RUSSIA'S CHILLING 'ALIEN' A LIEN' DISCOVERY http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/ offbeat/11711701/russias-chilling-aliendiscovery

It's a chilling story from Russia - but is it true? A Russian woman in the western city of Petrozavodsk claims to have found an alien creature's corpse - and kept it in her fridge for two years [image above]. The mysterious "lifeform" was reportedly kept by Marta Yegorovnam in her fridge, while she took five pictures to prove its existence, the Daily Mail newspaper reported. According to the Sun, Miss Yegorovnam claims she heard a loud noise outside her home. She rushed outside to find "flaming wreckage and crumpled metal" from a crashed UFO. The extraterrestrial victim of this crash was allegedly nearby. Her reaction was to wrap the strange creature in plastic, and place it in her fridge. The "body", the third alien sighting in Russian in recent months, was reportedly retrieved by Miss Yegorovnam from a UFO crash site near her summer house in 2009, the Daily Mail said. The "alien" is about 60cm long with a big head, two large eyes and looking like a cross between a fish and a humanoid. Unexplained Mysteries website says two men arrived at her home a few days ago and confiscated the corpse for investigative purposes, claiming to be from the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

increased threefold in the area over the past 20 years. Scientists from Russia, the U.S., Canada, Sweden, Estonia, Mongolia and China were invited to evaluate evidence of the creatures — the existence of which has never been proven — at a conference later this week, according to Russian radio station the Voice of Russia. Alleged sightings of Yetis in Kemerovo and the neighbouring Altai region, about 1,988 miles (3,200 kilometres) east of Moscow, are up three times compared to 20 years ago, with scientists estimating that there is a current population of at least several dozen in the area. Other evidence of the existence of the creatures — such as basic twig huts, twisted branches and footprints of up to 35 centimetres (14 inches) — also have been found in the area. A group of scientists from the conference will be sent out to search the region’s mountains to examine the evidence and try spot a Yeti. It will be the first expedition of its kind since 1958, when scientists from the Soviet Academy of Sciences scoured Western Siberia trying to catch a Yeti. Igor Burtsev, who heads the Moscowbased International Center of Hominology, said, “When Homo sapiens started populating the world, it viciously exterminated its closest relative in the hominid family, Homo neanderthalensis. Some of the Neanderthals, however, may have survived to this day in some mountainous wooded habitats that are more or less off limits to their arch foes.”
