Carlos del Junco and The Blues Mongrels Tickets available at sidwilliamstheatre.com or by calling 250.338.2430 Eight time Maple Blues winner, BIG REED RECORDS recording artist Carlos del Junco and his Blues Mongrels return to the Sid Williams Theatre to feature songs from his latest CD release Hang On. As one magazine reviewer said: “… if you think what he can do in the studio is jaw dropping, you have to see him live to get the gist of his uncanny ability.” (Jeffrey Morgan, Creem Magazine). A case in point, he opened for Ray Charles in 2003 at the Sony Centre and sold out of his 150 CDs in the 20 minute break before Ray came on! Carlos del Junco has toured many parts of the globe and is considered one the world’s greatest living harmonica players. He’s released 7 solo (band) CDs and 3 duo collaborative CDs. A dynamic live performer, he’s played virtually every major blues, folk and jazz festival in Canada. In addition to two Juno nominations, del Junco won two gold medals for both blues and jazz categories at the Hohner World Harmonica Championships in 1993 in Germany. Get ready to trash all you thought about the harmonica, Carlos del Junco and The Blues Mongrels deliver a no holds barred display of melodic fun and virtuosity. "A model of focus and urgency...a true virtuoso" - The Globe and Mail "One listen to the man who bent his first notes on a harmonica at the age of 14 and it’s obvious he’s in a class with such greats as Toots Theilemans, Paul Butterfield and Howard Levy of Bela Fleck’s Flecktones.” - Edmonton Journal

MARCH 122

MAMMA MIA!

Set on a colorful Greek island, the plot serves as a background for a wealth of ABBA songs. A young woman about to be married finds in her mother’s diary that strangers Sam Carmichael, Harry Bright or Bill Austin might be her father. Sophie dreams of having her father walk her down the aisle on her wedding day and she invites the three men to her wedding believing she will immediately recognize her father. She doesn’t, and that’s where the fun, stress and music begins!

MARCH 28 CHRIS FUNK-THE WONDERIST Chris Funk’s REDEFINING WONDER is an engaging and visceral multimedia experience that has audiences talking and scratching their heads for years to come. Finally, a magic show with live music! Presenting a violin concerto and a guitar loop recorded live on stage has put this show into a league of its own. SIMON COWELL: “BEST MAGICIAN we’ve had on the show so far! I’ve NEVER seen anything like that!”

Seeing a homeless guy begging on the street, a woman took pity on him and gave him a handful of change. “Thank you,” said the homeless man. “Your generosity is much appreciated. You know my life used to be great, but just look at the state of me now.” “How do you mean?” asked the woman. “Well,” he explained. “I was a multimillionaire. I had bank accounts all over the world with hundreds of thousands of dollars deposited in each.” “So where did it all go wrong?” she asked. The homeless man sighed, “I forgot my m ot h er’s maiden name.”

Although we are based in the Comox Valley/ Campbell River area, our dream is to take our music to other communities, especially small outlying areas. If a community would like us to pay a visit to their town, all we need is help with the travel expenses and a place to stay.»

In March, Love & Mercy plays on Sunday March 15 at Living Waters Fellowship, 2222Regent, in Black Creek. The show features Love And Mercy (Sister Act Three) and a lot more. It's 50's and 60's All are welcome. 7-9pm. Everything is by donation.

Bird & Wildlife Watching. There are many places to watch birds and see wildlife, depending on the season. The Rotary Dyke Road Park (2500 Comox Road) has a bird watching platform with a good view of the Courtenay River Estuary and the many birds there. Point Holmes and Goose Spit are also local favourites. Take a trip down to the Comox Marina, walk the Harbour Authority docks on the SE side of the road and see the many seals basking in the sun. If you walk out to the end of the boardwalk on the breakwater, there are great views of the harbour, the mountains and the glacier and – if you are lucky – you may see the seals hunting and eating along the edge of the breakwater. For a special tret, during much of the year, you can drive down to the Fanny Bay docks and watch the sea lions lounging on the floats off the end of the dock.

Historic Parks Filberg Park Visit the 1930s heritage home of pioneers Robert and Florence Filberg, and stroll their nine acres of lovingly landscaped gardens and heritage buildings. Take in the concert series in the garden, the Filberg Festival, or an art show. For the lover of all things vintage, browse the gift shop for vintage linens, silver tea sets, tea cups, etc. Coal Creek Historic Park Completed in 2014, this 40-hectare park encompasses Cumberland’s historic Chinatown and No. 1 Mine Japanese Town sites which were established in the late 1800s. Do a walking tour of what is left of the old Chinatown, visit the Chinese and Japanese cemeteries, and see portions of the historic Wellington Colliery Railway trail. The No. 1 Mine site is also located within the park. On Comox Lake Rd, Cumberland. Cumberland Community Forest With many trails, Cumberland Community Forest is a great place
