FIVE WAYS TO ATTRACT THE MAN OF YOUR Photographed by Reigna Jaeger

DREAMS!

Here are five tips to keep in mind, when you have your eye on that guy who might end up being that special someone! 1. Smile. You are beautiful. There is always a reason to smile, especially with this season of Spring, new, friends and family. Don't let anyone or anything steal your joy. A girl who is attractive is a girl who smiles because she has so many reasons to. 2. Don't gossip. Don't be the girl who talks about so-and-so and looks down on other girls. Always speak good of people to their face -- and even more so behind their back. A girl who is attractive is a girl who always praises the good in people. After all, Cinderella saw the world for what it could be, not what it was. 3. Be present. Be a girl who's not always obsessed with her phone, enjoy the people around you and get off your Insta-feed or quit stalking your crush on FB–let him find you. If you’re with someone, don't be

6

texting someone else. An attractive girl isn't on her phone 24/7, but is present and lives in the moment. 4. Moisturize, eat healthy and drink LOTS of water. Yes, it's Spring, and Summer in her season of shorts and sandals is just around the corner! Practicing healthy habits will keep your body feeling better, your mood stabilized, and your skin glowing. An attractive girl has self-control and takes care of her body—her most prized possession. 5. Give. Find ways to step outside of your comfort zone and give back. Volunteer at a soup kitchen and help feed those who are hungry, visit the elderly who might not have any visitors, donate toys or socks to children in the hospital who can't be at home with their loved ones. A girl who is attractive is a girl who is not afraid of getting uncomfortable in the name of selflessness. Enjoy this new season with your loved ones, smile, moisturize and give. My good friend Coco once said, "Elegance is not about being noticed, it's about being remembered". Be the girl that is remembered in how you choose to stand out and you will be most attractive. - Kenzie McMurren @princesskenzington

FM: How old were you when this began? Tell us about your journey. CM: I was introduced to alcohol at 14 years old and began to hang around with “friends” that would drink. After that, I was introduced to smoking weed. I thought I would only stick to the alcohol. But when I was 16, I was at a gathering with my “friends” and a girl took me into the bathroom and told me to try cocaine. My first reaction was “no”, but the look that she gave me said, “Are you kidding me? What’s the big deal? … ”, so in that moment, I felt like there was no escape, so I did … within 15 minutes … everything went numb. FM: How did you feel afterwards? CM: I felt numb and went home. I didn’t know what to do with myself so I cleaned the house – mom was wow’d. I started smoking more cigarettes at the time, I didn't feel good so I tried to sleep it off. After that, I only did drugs when it was offered or available to me at parties. I met (my now-husband) Jerry, and he hated anything that had to do with drugs, so I stopped when we were dating. After we got married, we kept partying but didn't do any drugs. A few years go by and I went back to work after having our third child. The warehouse guy at my work congratulated me on having the baby and then asked if I wanted to get rid of the baby fat that I had. I said “yes,” then asked how and he gave me a bag of speed. I had never done this before and didn’t know it was more powerful than coke. I did speed for a few months, tried to act normal, and the weight was coming off. Before I knew it, it spilled into a hidden seven-year addiction. When I started to realize I was addicted, I started to call out to the Lord because I didn't know what to do. I didn't feel good, I was forgetting things and I knew something needed to happen.

FM: How far into this addiction were you at this point? CM: 4-1/2 years. That’s when I decided this was dark and I didn't want to do this anymore. That’s when I got pregnant with Josh, our fourth child, and I thought “This is it! This is my saving grace!” As addicted as I was, I wasn't going to do drugs while I was pregnant. I was scared. During those 9 months, I didn’t do drugs, I started to read God’s Word and I was getting closer to Him. I had no idea the addiction was still there. Within two weeks after having Josh, I went back to the warehouse guy to get more drugs to lose the baby fat again, but I thought I would only do it for a couple months. FM: How long from that point did it last? CM: About two years. The first year I was feeling horrible, but this time I felt guilt and shame. I had a newborn baby and three other kids. This overwhelming feeling of selfishness came over me. I was going through the motions of being a mom, but I wasn't actually being a mom. So when Josh was growing up, I began to cry out to the Lord again asking Him what I should do. God told me to go confess to a pastor, but I didn't want to. Surely a pastor would send me to a recovery home. I began to research options like homes I could go to that no one would know about. I was desperate to be free from the shame, addiction, and darkness that I felt. I tried to break my addiction on myself. It escalated from coke, to speed, to crystal, to crank, and it kept getting harder to quit. My only thought was getting the next drug. I went from doing one line a day, to doing multiple lines a day. I prayed to God that if I died from doing so much drug-use, to please take care of my family and I kept hearing Him say “I love you”.

needed help, so I went to my mom. I wasn't fully honest with her so I didn't fully get free! She encouraged me saying, “God is going to make an escape for you!” I called my sister and explained what I was struggling with and apologized. She said “Whom the Son sets free, is free indeed!”. I thought I was going to be condemned, but I never was. I was loved and that gave me confidence to do what God was telling me to do. FM: But you still didn't confess to your pastor … CM: No, I confessed to other people because I was trying to find any other way to obey Him. FM: How did you finally get free? CM: I was still asking God in the middle of my mess. I was up all hours studying His Word and getting close to Him. I started Level 1 of a discipleship class and in the middle of my lifestyle, I was still overwhelmed with how much God loved me. When I realized God wasn’t mad at me and that He wanted me to be free, I wanted to be free more than anything! FM: A lot of people have a misconception of who God is … His heart is that in the middle of your mess, no matter what you’ve done, He wants you (Cont. on page 26) Christy Mireles sharing her story with youth.

Music Some vocalists come and go, and some come and stay -- even after the music's gone. Their voice all but stalks you because it's just that powerful. Chloe Chaidez, lead singer and founder of Kitten, is no exception to the rule. A voice full of as much fire and power as it has depth and soul, her love of music and songwriting landed her at #17 in Rolling Stone magazine's list of "20 Best Pop Albums of 2016" with not unknown names & artists inclusive of Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. Fashioned Magazine met up with Chloe in Pasadena for a little Q & A. Under-dressed in retro pants and her favorite comfy designer sweater, and looking like every bit of a Rock Star, here is what Chloe had to say about what it means to be ... Kitten. FM: When did you start your Music journey? CC: I've always been singing … I started playing bass when I was 10 ... I started doing music at that age and then I started Kitten when I was around 15. FM: At that age did you know that this is what you wanted to do? You know sometimes when you're young, you think, “When I'm older, I'm going to do this …”, Did you already know you wanted to do this? CC: Yeah, it's always been something that I wanted to do ... when I was younger, I was pretty set on it, you know? FM: Yeah, so how did you start your band? CC: My dad helped me with a kid band … we were all really young and would cover David Bowie … GunsN-Roses –a lot of classic rock and then also a lot of new sort of alternative music, so I feel like that's kind of how I got a sense of songwriting and structure. And then when I was 15, I met my now manager-collaborator, Chad and we started writing songs, and yeah … it kind of just grew from there. And then I met the rest of the people in my band at that time and yeah ... FM: So, why Kitten? CC: Umm ... it just sounded classic—iconic to me, like Blondie, Prince or something that people would remember … and it would look cool as a logo or something. FM: It does look cool, and it's got a cool sound—rolls nice off the tongue. I was telling Janae (Klatt) earlier that I felt like your music … definitely has an 80’s vibe 10

girl POWER Let's face it. We like clothes; and for the most part, we enjoy dressing up. Whether that means going all out, with an hour of closet-shopping and pairing, to another hour of hair & makeup, to just throwing on that statement piece over your favorite tee, finishing it off with your worn-in Chucks, Rebecca Minkoffs or Tom's, dressing up is what we do. Everyday. So why not mix-n-match whatcha already got to give your fashion-forward wardrobe a whole new look? From Bomber jackets, to white tees, to skirts, dresses, lace and jeans, there are so many ways to what and how you wear what you wear. Heels? Booties? A satchel or a clutch? Maybe you feel fierce, yet a little playful and feminine, there is no reason you can't finish your look with a Bomber jacket; or on the other hand, you feel so fierce, you're wondering if you've channeled your inner greaser, feeling like more of a T-Bird, than a Pink Lady. Don't give it another thought -- we gotchu. Whether you still hum to that old tune of, "I Enjoy Being a Girl," or "Run the World", is your morning march-to-anthem, let your fashion tell your story of who you are. In a day where being female is celebrated, strides are being made, and that's a good thing. And while there may still be a little pushback at the workplace, as far as fashion goes, the sky really is the limit. We've put together some of our most simplistic faves that can easily be mix-n-matched, and have you feeling like the fiercest female of fashion that you already are. Cheers to these beauties on the upcoming pages who march to their own female rhythm, rocking the true beauties of who they already are. Go ahead, turn up the volume and march. - Cyndi Galley, Editor-in-Chief 12

The Big BANG Theory!

When it comes to fashion and trying new looks, in the past, I have been a far better admirer. Most people who know me also know I am a rather low-maintenance person when it comes to my hair. I tend to roll right out of bed, tame the curls a little and then get on with my day. However, with what I would consider to be a coming-of-age in several areas of my life, I ventured out of my comfort zone to try something new.

Lifestyle The moment when your gifts and talents collide with God’s perfect timing, you can't help but sense an explosion that seems to well up from within, as you begin walking in what you have always been purposed to do. It's then when you realize that you were fashioned not only for such a time as this, but you see in part what it is that makes you …YOU! It’s who you already are! Do we realize that our gifts & talents are a gift to us from The One Who fashioned us? So what we end up with, are gifts given to us to help us in what we have been designed to do. Brilliant. Only a Designer can think through such intricacies. Just ask Tory, Marc or Karl.

WHO ARE YOU FASHIONED TO BE?

Once you have an idea of what it could be (and listen, it could be more than one thing), what are the steps you need to take to get there? Who can you meet with to help point you in the right direction? It’s when you begin walking it out, tapping into what is already yours at the perfect time and place, you will experience a joy that comes from your life being lined up with who you have been fashioned to be! That's when you have found your sweet spot. It's then, where you find the freedom to be you— because you are the only you there ever CAN be! May you find your sweet spot and be all that your Designer has fashioned you to be! - Karmel Saenz

I for one know, that it can sometimes be difficult to really think on this, as some talents may be more visible to the human eye than others. True, we all have our “God-given-gifts”, but sometimes some are more difficult to identify than others. I think we sometimes tend to make it harder on ourselves than it really needs to be. Some fret in attempt to figure out and declare what our “major” is. Others pace the floor in trying to determine their purpose. What I've found to be true is simple—it's what just comes naturally to you. What are you passionate about? Are you intrigued by medicine? Do you find architecture fascinating? Are you drawn to helping people work out some of their stuff? Maybe you can’t put down your pencils as you air-drum to Estelle … again. If you still can't pin point it, ask your closest friends. Who knows you better than them anyway? Take some time to get alone, pray and then write it down.

Music

FM: I love the 80's. I love the Missing Persons, The Waitresses … So, who were some of your influences from the 80’s? CC: I love Missing Persons, I love Dale Bozzio ... FM: Who are some of your influences from the 80’s that pointed you to who you are today? CC: I love Annie Lennox—a big hero of mine ... Bryan Ferry ... I love Dale Bozzio – Missing Persons ... all that stuff… Like Avalons … probably one of my top three favorite rock singers. So yeah, but I love like The Old Sins, The Prophets … stuff like that. I love the singers of that sort of time, too ... they put on such a cool character. FM: So, what has your journey been like – from 15 to 22? Some people I know I try to make it in the industry – some people that I know have great voices & are super talented and are still trying to knock down the doors of music. What was your journey like? Or what have you done differently? CC: I still have a really long way to go—you know what I mean? But that's very sweet, so thank you first of all ... that means a lot to me. But, yeah – I guess just persistence, you know? I think it's really easy to feel inadequate, I guess. In your performances as an artist or as a musician, whether it's like in what you're creating or where you're trying to get, you know. I think as an artist, you don't really set realistic goals for yourself sometimes – you're just like, "Ugh...I want to be selling out arenas tomorrow!" … and when you're not doing that, you

get defeated … you know what I mean? Or some form of that & those crazy dreams. So I think just not letting that bog you down … so, setting realistic goals for yourself. I think my manager was really a good mentor in that sense at a young age. Like when I first started, I was playing open mic ‘cuz I was like 14. He was like, ”Okay, if you do well at this open mic, the person who runs open mic may even give you your own night,” and that was a huge deal for me. So, he was like, "You have to be the best and you'll get your own night." So, he gave me my own night because I was really prepared for that one song that I had, and then I played his birthday party and someone from Hollywood Records was there and then I went to a meeting and they wanted to signed me the next day, and that's when Kitten was really started. I didn't end up signing with them. I ended up signing with Atlantic, but because I had that deal on the table so...

FM: Well, the whole principle of whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all of your might"; And so, even looking at you on stage – we watched the video of the concert that Justin had attended at the Roxy and I just loved watching you perform because you're just so in it. I thought, "Wow, she's a great performer." Your voice is gorgeous, first of all, and then you write some of your songs as well, right? CC: Yes. FM: The talent is a whole other thing, but you get up on stage—I know a lot of musicians who write their own songs, they are songwriters but when they get on stage (my mom's so cute because she will say, "Well, I don't really like ____, because he's kind of boring on stage ... ")... so, there is really something to stage presence, that you bring to the stage ... I want to go out to a concert by the way!" CC: Oh yeah! (Continued on page 28)

FM: How old were you when that happened? CC: I was 15 ... so I guess it's just setting realistic goals for yourself that you can accomplish – not to say that I've even done that every time, but that's what I try to do.

Photograph Courtesy of Kitten

(Kitten, Cont. from page 10) CC: Yeah ... so you were saying you loved 80’s music…

FM: It also sounds like you didn't take any stage for granted, either … even on open mic night, your manager was like, "Bring it," and you were like, "Yes!" You're not just like, "Oh, I'm going to wait until I get to the big leagues," you were like, "No, I'm gonna bring it now and take every opportunity ". CC: And I think that's true for life. I'm not doing it perfect, but that’s a good mentality. www.fashionedmagazine.com

CM: I think we only have a little glimpse of His unconditional love. I asked God again what I should do. He gently reminded me that He had already told me to confess to my pastor a year ago. I had prolonged this addiction a full year because I did what He told me to do half way! FM: Half done, ain’t done!! CM: Even in correction, it was the love of the Father that shone through.

I was on my way to work on Friday, when I would usually pick up more drugs and my dealer's girlfriend called me crying saying my dealer had been arrested and thrown in jail. (Kitten, Continued from page 25) FM: So part of our magazine's heart is that we want every reader to know that everyone has been uniquely created and fashioned to do something specific; and so what would you say as a word of encouragement to somebody who might say, "I see myself or envision myself doing this, but I don't know if I have what it takes." What would you say to that person to encourage them? CC: I actually didn't come up with this, but ... this girl, Tommy Jensen said this – whatever it is, if it's like writing, or designing or photography… Do it, and then judge it later. Put it on paper, put it on film, put it in a recording and then worry about the rest later ... just get it done and then you will move forward from there.

FM: If you could just leave one message to our listeners, what would you say? CC: I’m gonna say, Imagine. For more information on Kitten: kittentheband.com or @kittenband

FM: I love that. CC: That's really true. FM: I feel like what that does, is that even if you're afraid, it doesn't matter, because you're doing it. CC: you did it. CHLOE BRINGING IT IN A FIERCE-BUT-GORGEOUS RETRO WHITE DRESS.

FM: You're doing it and you've done it. CC: And the more you keep doing it, the better it's probably going to get ... work that muscle, you know? FM: Talk to us about anything that's coming up. CC: Working on my album right now – my second album. I'm going to be touring in May and there will be more touring in the summer ... so recording and touring. FM: Recording and touring. Speaking of recording, what inspires you to write what you write? CC: It really depends. I was at the York for about three weeks recently and honestly the people I was around really inspired me. Like we were writing together and so they would show me something – like I talked about that Lion King 2 song—He Lives in Me. FM: While you are out of the road – because you do tour – what helps keep you grounded? CC: I try to read the Bible as much as I can. It's also really easy to go into a cycle of partying because it's so easy – there's always beer in the dressing room, and everyone after the show wants to buy you shots; and so for me, I just don't touch any of it and so that just keeps me really focused. Add it wasn't always like that, but at this point ... 'cuz it's also tiring ... I've been through a lot with my voice, too. I've lost it during shows, it's felt like such a nightmare and a lot of that was just due to my lifestyle, staying up all night ... so you can't really be doing that on the road & it's really easy, so I just don't do it at all. That helps me stay grounded. FM: I applaud you because you are stewarding your gift – is what you're doing. You were taking care of it, and not everybody does that – especially in the industry that you're in, so high-five! We look forward to a tour coming up for you in the near future and where can we find you on social media? CC: Everything is pretty much @kittenband or kittentheband.com

CHANGE OF HEART ...

’ve been walking about life somewhat despondent and without direction. I’ve tried just about everything to fill the emptiness I wake up to every morning. By everything, you know what I mean; Even if I’m kidding myself externally, I still feel empty, alone, sad and hurt. How is that possible?

may have casually referenced You or never before, but I think I’m ready to now. I’ve heard about a God who is real, kind, loving, forgiving and Who can pull me out of even the darkest of places. If you are real, then I take a step towards You & ask for Your help.

f You are real, I accept that Jesus took my place on the cross so many years ago, so that I would come to this place and meet You here. If You are real, then you already know all I want to say. I need You and receive Your forgiveness & love. My heart and life are Yours. Make me new, right here, right now.

If you felt this was speaking to you & want to chat with someone, email us at info@fashionedmagazine.com or fill out the “Contact Us” on our web at www.fashionedmagazine.com. We are here for you!

PREGNANT & FEELING GOOD! by Katie Lapa

When I was a single, unmarried woman, I always wondered what I would be like during my future pregnancies. I wanted to be "that mom” that wore heels out shopping, had everything prepared months ahead of time, and always glamorous!

TURN UP THE HEAT!

Sleek, chic and STRAIGHT hair - this is still a trending hair style, though the beachy waves and tousled curls make the best look for the days of carefree Summer. Now with upcoming parties and graduation festivities, sleek is chic, and it remains to be a fierce and refreshing look this season.
