HELLO!

Happy Fourth of July and Happy SUMMER! It is with the giddiness and the glee of a child we release this issue! While we, of course, love the yellows, lavenders and other fun colors of the season, we especially love celebrating our country and it's colors of red, white and blue!

For this issue, what can I say? Firstly, we scored BIGTIME with this month's cover girl, Lindsay Russo, a true world-changer whose surrendered life has touched the lives and hearts of thousands. We are honored to have this beautiful giant-slayer grace the cover of this month's issue, as she tremendously added warmth and fun to the pages of this issue, as well. Willing to brave the rocks and the waves of Victoria Beach for our photo shoot, we had a blast and couldn't be more pleased with the pages you now read ... thank you, Lindsay! We are grateful for so many other things, as well. While we do like the finer things in life, we have come to realize some of those finer things can be found in thrift boutiques and shops, so it was a joy to do a photo shoot at Mustard Market––the cutest thrift in shop in Orange County! What we captured in that shoot was a very small fraction of the gem it truly is. We can't wait for you to catch a glimpse ... and visit! Also, EXTREMELY thankful for this dedicated team at Fashioned and for our beloved country, this issue is very special to me. I pray you are encouraged, inspired and strengthened by what your eyes see and read. We love you and know that good things await you in this new season!

Mustard Market by Cyndi Galley

As the trend of second-hand and thrift-shopping continues to forge as more of a thing of the future and less a thing of the past, our eyes (and heart) landed on a new hidden treasure that has made her way into the O.C.. Mustard Market––tucked away in the heart of Downtown Fullerton , CA (in SoCo)––has the feel (and smell) of the likes of Anthropologie, sans the high-dollar price tags. Owned by Doneanne & James Jameson, you are aware that this is not just an average thrift-shop, offering rare finds with displays created with artistic beauty. Just about each furniture piece is sure to have Doneanne's perfectly refurbished signature, at a price many can afford. You wish you had more space in your home just to purchase that perfect piece you didn't know you had been waiting for.

Carrying anything and everything from vintage fashion to retro & refurbished furniture, you will not only be wow'd by their inventory, but their staff is sure to greet you with a friendly smile. If you're ever anywhere near Orange County, or like us, you enjoy traveling to the other end of the world for that perfect find, Mustard Market should be your next must-travel-to-thrift-store. Why? Because walking into this boutique haven will have you feeling like you stepped ... right into a dream. The next ten or so pages ... says it all. IG: @themustardmarket

ALeague of Her Own ... as told to Cyndi Galley by Lindsay Russo

The first time I officially had the privilege of meeting Lindsay Russo, I was sitting at a table in Miami, on the eve of leaving for Nicaragua, where almost 3,000 missionaries were traveling to 1Nation1Day, a historical event spearheaded by Missions.Me founders, Dominic and Lindsay Russo. From the moment you meet Lindsay, you feel very at-ease with this amazing woman, who has already accomplished so much in her lifetime. In a league of her own, she is as fierce as she is beautiful and as smart as she is a humantarian. I so enjoyed this interview with Lindsay. So grab your favorite drink and enjoy the read, 'cuz we know you will, too! FM: What are your TOP THREE beauty musthave's (and who are they by)? LR: I actually just did an entire blog post on my beauty “must-haves", except I couldn’t narrow it down past “top 11!” BUT if I had to choose three I would definitely say a Beauty Blender, Maybelline's Fit Me Matte + Powerless liquid foundation (because its $8 and works great) and Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil! I feel like I can conquer the world (or at least leave the house) after using these items! You don’t always have to look FAB but with a little skin touch up and great brows, you can definitely conquer your day!

also recently done a little lifestyle change and gone completely gluten and dairy free. I did it on a whim “just to see what happens” and I fell in love with the way that I felt! I have two boys– ages three and six–and there is no time for low energy in my day-to-day!  I usually start the day with a vegan protein shake, eat a salad with some protein on it for lunch (usually the same protein I’m feeding the kids for lunch) and for dinner we really love to grill! It’s the easiest way to feed everyone exactly what they want and not have to make more than one meal! Steaks, lettuce wrapped burgers and salmon are on the top of my dinner list!    FM: What are your favorite places you've traveled to-date? LR: I love Hawaii––I met my husband there! I also love Italy. My husband is half Italian, so it was fun to see Italy with him for the first time a few years ago.

FM: What is some of the best advice you've ever been given and who was it from? LR: I think the best advice I have been given as of late is just to "enjoy your season." My sister–in–law, Jenn, is 10 years older than me and it’s the perfect perspective point. She's still in touch with the small-kid-stage I am going through, yet she's sort of the “light-at-the-endof-the-tunnel” since her kids are in high school FM: Who is your personal beauty icon? now! Learning to take the snuggles as I can get LR: There are so many! But I just think Olivia Cul- them … because thinking of them leaving me is po is so stunning. Every work- FM: Do you have a signature scent?  out works your entire body and it is really fun LR: Don’t laugh, but I have been wearing Ed to do with friends! I have seen the best results Hardy since high school! I just can’t move past doing this over anything else I have ever tried. it … I love it. :) I love it! FM: What is your favorite feature? I love look like? trying new things and experimenting with color LR: This is such a tricky question because I have (slowly but surely becoming a blonde!) 18

FM: Is there a feature you had to learn to love and if so, what is it and how did you learn to love it? LR: Definitely my body after having two babies. It was more mental than physical! I loved my body even through pregnancy, but as soon as the baby is born, you can feel trapped.  It’s hard work to gain and lose multiple times. I had to learn to love the process and be patient with myself. FM: What does your daily beauty routine look like? LR: My daily beauty routine is done in 10 minutes or less, so it is pretty effortless! I generally am wearing eyelash extensions, and when I have those on, I barely feel like I need to apply any makeup. Usually when my boys see me sit down to do my makeup they say, “Is it church day?" My hair has natural curl, so I usually just let it go. Living in California it is nice to generally have somewhat of a tan, so adding a little bronzer (and some under eye concealer on the days the kids wake up before the sun) is usually is about the extent of what I do!

as I began to learn about the 25 million orphans in India who are homeless, abandoned and raising themselves. Most never reach adulthood. I knew in that moment that God had called me to be in that place, at that time, and that was all it took for me. FM: How did you know this is what you needed to do? LR: I am a pretty level–headed person. Those who know me know that I don’t get “hyped up” about a lot of things. But when God speaks, I listen! I had spent so many years asking the Lord what He wanted for me to do, committing my life to Him, that when the “offer” came, I accepted on the spot. I definitely didn’t see it coming, but something in my spirit said “this is it” and I have never looked back!

FM: You have a pretty amazing story as to how the funding for your desire to open an orphanage came about … tell us about that? What did that feel like? LR: After visiting India that first time–my heart exploding with vision–it was really hard to leave. I wanted to stay and help, but I was reminded by FM: What would you say is key to fulfilling your the Lord that He will take care of them until I returned. I started that day doing everything that purpose or calling? LR: You have to be willing to say yes––to anything! I could––starting with everything that was “in my I believe the key really is to live a surrendered life. hands”. I studied graphic design in college so I I have known the Lord for my entire life and when created a logo, a name and a very simple website. I open my Bible I still feel like the words jump off I wanted people who may feel impressed to give, of the page. It is so alive and exciting! There are to have something to look at! As my husband and so many things that this broken world needs – you I prayed, feeling completely overwhelmed by this just have to tune your ear to the heart of God and enormous task and financial commitment, we said let Him reveal how to bring your unique gift to the these words “God, if you bring us the resources, we will give it right back to you.” A few days later I world. got a life-changing phone call––it was the Executive FM: You founded Angel House––a non-profit Producer for the gameshow Minute to Win It. Since then, 167 Angel Homes/Houses have edition! She knew I would have never agreed to been built, rescuing 4,500 children in eight years. this, so she did it behind my back. She gave me a (WOW!) What was the initial thing or moment that five-minute warning before my phone rang! However, triggered you to begin to dream about opening an in the process of our first meeting, they asked me orphanage (orphan homes/ministry/organization)?  a question that was probably the easiest answer I have ever been given. She said “What would you LR: I was prophesied over by a 14-year-old boy at a do if you won the $1 Million Dollar Grand Prize?” youth conference in Pennsylvania in 2010. He said I immediately began to share with her about to me, “I don’t know why, but God is telling me to Angel House, how we had just opened our first tell you you’re going to work with orphans for the orphanage, and showed her photos from our rest of your life.” I wish I could say it hit me in that grand opening. She began to cry and flew us out moment, but to be honest, the thought had never to LA 24 hours later! God, in His wisdom (and also before crossed my mind! Coincidently, Dominic His humor) provided a way for 8.5 million viewers and I were leading a small team to India later that to hear about Angel House in a single moment. week. While I was there I felt impressed to visit an We didn’t win the grand prize, but we did win and orphanage, out of respect for the words that were split $250,000 and in 2011, I was able to donate spoken over me. FM: What is advice you'd give to someone who has dreams in their heart, but has yet to take a step towards fulfilling that call (ing)? LR: God doesn’t have “need”–He is almighty and all powerful; But there are some things He cannot physically do! He cannot pick up an orphan, give a starving child something to eat, or begin a ministry––He needs us for that. We all have an assignment and a call, and although to some it’s to begin a ministry and to someone else its raising a family, being a teacher or a combination of all of it, it’s all a part of God’s divine plan. The world needs what you have to give and you are here for a reason! Ask Him and He will show you!

Never ever settle. Don’t you dare! You are far too valuable for that. Keep your standards high and live for God with everything you have.

FM: You have two sons— Mason and Jude; and you're married to Dominic, a global visionary who has taken the limits off ––how do you balance your life?  LR: Oh man, that is a tough question. I think I would refer to that “best advice I have ever received” question and say that you have to take life in bite-size chunks, or you will get completely overwhelmed. Right now, my kids need me physically present, where in years past (pre-kids) I felt impressed to be traveling most weeks with Dominic.  Each season will look different, you just have to be willing to slow down and tune your ear to lean into what needs you the most on any given day.

FM: Any fashion icons? LR: I love following fashion bloggers — I hate taking my kids to the mall so if I can just scroll a page, see an outfit I love, and “swipe up” and buy it – I am all about it! I love Melissa Cole (@ellabrooksblog) and really hope to meet her someday!

Summer is here and for most of us our chill mode has been activated. That means longer days, quick-outfit changes and messy hair … we don't care. No worries though—our team cares. We care about keeping your summer motto of sleep-n-slay all day. So here are our top five perfectly messy hairstyles that will keep you perfectly messy all summer long. 1. The Messy Bun I had to start off with this classic. I mean everybody wears a messy bun—men, babies … in fact I'm not even going to lie, I'm wearing it right now as I'm typing this. Messy buns are one of the most cutest-yet-simplest hairstyles that can be done in a various number of ways. Seriously, just go look on YouTube and type in “messy bun” and your screen will be filled with hundreds— maybe even thousand—of videos to show you a vast amount of ways on how to create this simple-yet-satisfying hairstyle. 24

2. The High Ponytail This one is definitely my favorite. The Messy Pony is so cute. It can be worn in many ways with many different styles from high couture, to very simple street-style chic fashion. I think another reason why it’s a personal fave is because it doesn't matter if you have super curly hair or super straight hair—it looks cute either way you do it … even if you don't get all of your hair in your ponytail.

3. Curls on Curls Some of us were #blessed with some beautiful curly hair and some of us were also #blessed with some beautiful straight hair. So for all of my straight-hair girls who want to have curls but don't want to take the time, here is a little tip that I learned in my college days. You know those days when you have to stay up ‘til 2 in the morning to study for a final and wanted to show up for your final the next day at 8 in the morning looking like you actually did something to your hair? This is the hairstyle. Right before you go to bed, braid your hair in as many tiny tight braids as you can. I would even recommend for some of you who wash your hair every night to braid your hair as it us still damp. When you wake up in the morning undo all of the braids and comb them out (Do not brush. I repeat … do not brush them out). Voila! Beautifully beach-tousled curly hair. F.Y.I short hair is always a hit during the summer season. It keeps your head nice and cool … super easy to wake up in the morning and style it and you just look like the fashionista you already are!

26

4. Braided high or low do’s Now those of us who actually are good at doing braids, this is the messy hairstyle for you. Just add a couple of braids in your hair and either style your hair in a low or high bun or pony, and it will look super with whatever outfit you match it up with.

5. Half up do This is definitely an homage to the 90’s. Since we’re living in a time when a lot of 90’s fashion is making a coming back, I had to add this in. Once again, there are so many variations of this style. You can twist pieces of your top half to the back and bobby pin it down or you can bring that all the way up to a high ponytail. To keep up with the trends a high bun, you can add flowers to the back, a really pretty clip, or braids … literally there is so much you can do. 28

And there you have it ... these are our top five favorite summer messy dos. Do you have your own top five? Do some of yours match ours? We want to see them! Send us your pictures on Instagram using the hashtag #FashionedPerfectlyMessy

What To Know About Hydration, Heat and Staying

Healthy

by Kelsey Lee Hollenbeck

All living things require water to survive, but staying healthy and hydrated during the summer season takes a little more intention than just a general knowing that drinking water is an essential part of life. Being that we are made of around 60% water after the age of one, it’s understandable that our day-to-day water intake really does make a difference in how we look, feel and function – especially when temperatures are high and we’re spending time in the sun. A good baseline is a minimum of 70-ounces of water each day for the sake of an at-least-decently-functioning-body. Our digestive system, brain and all of our organs need adequate water to work efficiently and deliver nutrients throughout our systems––not to mention how well a healthy, fat-burning metabolism works, is heavily impacted by how hydrated a person is. Water isn’t the only variable in maintaining a healthy body weight, but it is a big one.

Between perspiration and loss of water through simply breathing, dehydration can sneak up unexpectedly. If you're being active to the point of breaking a sweat, or out in the heat longer than 30 minutes, add in an extra 20-40 ounces of water for that day to help keep your body hydrated. What works for one person may look different for another, but for example’s sake, my usual M.O. is drinking at least 20-ounces of water first thing in the morning––but my guzzling doesn't stop there. During days I'm more active, out in the sun, or eating heavier foods, 120-ounces is my target, which equates to about a gallon. For days I'm not training, or am more sedentary, I'll reduce my water intake 20–30 ounces.

Although you likely already knew that drinking water is an integral part of taking care of yourself, let this be a helpful reminder that regulating just how much you drink through the summer months takes intention, in order to feel and function at How active you are and what type of climate your best. you're in, will help determine what's best for you, because water also helps your skin regulate body Kelsey Lee Hollenbeck is a personal trainer based temperature through perspiration––also known out of Orange County and has a YouTube fitness as “sweat”. channel, Kelsey Lee. Welcome Home

» I’ve been walking about life somewhat despondent and without any specific or clear direction. Alot of times I feel lonely––even when I'm surrounded by people. Though I do experience moments of happiness, I still feel discouraged and sometimes hopeless. I’ve tried just about everything to fill the emptiness I wake up to every morning. Though I do laugh or appear to be making it, alot of times I feel empty, sad and often, alone. I'm tired of putting on a front.

Now that I think about it, I've never been open to knowing You––I have never really believed in God. If You are real, I’m opened now because I am ready for a life I've yet to experience. I’ve heard about a God who is real, kind, loving, forgiving and Who can pull me out of even the darkest of places. If you are real, then I take a step towards You & ask for Your help.
